How long to wait for Carlsbad in April-July 09?

I just put in a request for anything but a studio in Four Seasons Aviara and Tamarack for late April through mid July 2009. My third resort choice currently has many available (Welk in Escondido), however, fewer 2 bedrooms -- which would be nice if we end up there, but not an absolute.

My question is, how long should I let the request for the first two resorts go before I give up and book Welk? It'd be a bummer to loose all possibility of a 2 bedroom there if I waited too long, but I could live with it.

The shoulda, woulda, coulda's drive me nuts!

FSA and Tamarack are not easy trades because of the quality and limited number of deposits. You need a very high quality resort. Depending on what you deposited, you may wait a very long time. It's probably more likely to show up in flex-time. How long to wait depends on when you have to make your other travel plans (ie. flights, etc)

What did you deposit (week number and resort) and we can give you a better idea

DRI points. I saw an Aviara studio about a month ago (for fall 08?). Never noticed before that though because I've never looked for that resort prior.

Another thought came to mind -- this spacebanking. I don't know a whole lot about it, but from my understanding, would these resorts have already done any space banking for those dates by now? Or do they do so closer to?

I've never seen any large space banking show up for either of these two resorts, for the dates you are requesting. They are very sort after resorts, and will be difficult to get for your dates without a tiger trader, and a lot of luck.

I have already seen some So Cal, for your dates available in Marriott Newport Coast & Riviera Resort & Spa. If I were you, I'd add them to my request. After the Marriott preference is up, (about 2 more weeks for May dates) you have a shot at getting one.

While not a DRI owner, I remember reading a post from Spence that up until 6mths? 1 year ago? (can't remembr the exact time frame) he had never seen Aviara with his DRI points. I'm not sure if that is still the case. Perhaps someone else can chime in on this. On the Tamarack issue, you just don't see many deposits from this resort in general, let along summer. Angela can probably add more on that.

I have a request in for FSA for March-April 09 for about a month now....nothing yet.

I looked back in our sightings board and they seem to become available (at least last year) in Oct/November timeframe.

I traded in October 2004 for a 2BR FSA May 1ish 2005 using a Marriott 2BR.

I have already seen some So Cal, for your dates available in Marriott Newport Coast & Riviera Resort & Spa. If I were you, I'd add them to my request. After the Marriott preference is up, (about 2 more weeks for May dates) you have a shot at getting one.

Thanks, too far north though. I'm trying to stay on the south side. Also trying to strike a balance between promitiy to a beach and family friendly.

I had only just discovered FSA in the directory and was pleased to see my DRI points pull it. Then I discovered everyone else wanted FSA as well! When I talked to II on the phone the other day, they made it seem like I had a chance to pull it "if it comes available" -- that last phrase being key. And they said I had better chances in April/May since it's still a little in the off season.

And the rep mentioned the same thing with Tamarack, that there just isn't a whole lot, but encouraged me to try.

Oct - March is easier to get than April - Sept in So Cal., so it wasn't really a fluke. They do show up, just not often for the months that you are requesting. April & May will be easier than the summer months, but still difficult. Also, this year Easter & Passover are in April, as well.

No reason not to give it a shot, but you need to have a back-up. The only downside is that if you wait too long and don't add to your request, you may miss the opportunity to get anything good, since others will have had their request in before you.

Agreed. But how long to "safely" wait? I've never done a request for a certain place/time before. Didn't have expectations, just found something and went! But now, I have to live up to my own expectations! And will my back up Welk fill up and then I'm out of luck for anything (and loose my banked week altogether because I didn't use it in time)? Should have said I was looking for 2 bedrooms at Villas on the Green, of which there are only 2 or 3. They appear to sleep more, so we can invite my brother's family with us, and from what I've read, they're close to the boulder springs kids stuff? Of course, I can't find a map of the place for the life of me, so the location of the original villas and villas on the green could be completely moot.

I have this horrible habit of over-thinking stuff. I think I'm just gonna take the chance and leave my search in place until Novemeber, at which time I'll book whatever's left at Welk and consider myself fortunate just to use it instead of loose it. Here I go...starting to look at the glass as half-full instead of half-empty...happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts...

This is what I currently see at Villas on the Greens. This resort seems to be the easiest resort to get in that area. Although not many 2 bdrms, what's there seems to stick around forever.
