  • Take a 1BR, or let the 2BR roll

I've had an ongoing search for any 2BR at the five Orlando Disneys since about April. Got a call today for a 1BR at OKW. A 1BR would be fine---we stayed in one last year, and with the larger unit size, it's enough room for us. But, a 2BR would be nicer.

This is for week 8, Sat check-in only (2/21-2/28/09)---we've already got flights.

Hold out for a 2BR, or take the 1?

I suppose I could start a second search with another unit---I'll have another one ready in another week that I can devote to a search-first. If it hits, I can then retrade the first unit. But, that means I *cannot* miss a day of email, or I might end up with two of them, which I really don't want.

    Thoughts?

I would keep it, and hope not to miss the second confirmation email

      I'd wait.

I have been seeing a few more Disney's than normal popping up lately. It's always a crap shoot , considering you already have your airfare but with about 7 months to go, I'd wait for the 2BR. Worst case scenarion, you don't get the 2BR and settle for a 1BR when the time gets closer. Or you take a 2BR at another resort in Orlando. I guess you just have to decide which is more important. The Disney location/brand, or the second BR?

I just went through this with II for a Disney stay. I wanted a 1BR - but would settle for a studio. I grabbed the studio when it came up - then a while later I saw a 1BR available so I called II and retraded (cost was another exchange fee - basically nothing) and I got the 1BR. I say take the 1BR and then if you see a 2BR tie it up with your other unit until II opens at 9:00 and call them to reexchange.

I think that's what I'll end up doing, but probably with a request-first search rather than morning spot-checks. I canvassed the family, and they were unanimous--they're willing to give up the extra bedroom and bath rather than stay in the offsite backup we have already reserved----particularly as this might be our last Disney trip in a while. For Feb '10, we're probably going to go to Universal instead for Harry Potterland.

Fortunately, I've never been infected by the Disney Bug.

            Sad to see.

The women in my life would never give up the additional bathroom.

Need some many emoticons here Brian.

Funny you should mention that. The women in my life weren't sure they could live without one either, but we did it last year, so they survived.

For that time of year, I would take the 1BR OKW as they are spacious units - and put a search in for the 2BR - doing a 'retrade' if it does come thru.

So if a 2BR comes through with a different unit, you take that one and then cancel your original exchange? How does that affect that week? I am trying to get this straight! Thanks!

It doesn't affect the week if you switch confirmations from the 1 bedroom to the 2. Different story than if you cancel an exchange without an immediate "retrade."

All Great advice, 2s are pretty rare outside of hurricane season, for what you are getting, another exchange fee is nothing. I am doing that now, I have a 1 bedroom for Beach club for Aug 31, looking to get a 2 bedroom, but I took the sure thing 5 months ago, and nothing yet.

So far, no bites on the 2BR. But, we did get a call today allowing us to switch from Old Key West to the same sized-unit at Wilderness Lodge Villas, so having that second search running was helpful.

-brian, who doesn't mind the infrequent call from II with close matches. Every once in a while, something cool shows up.

This is quite the opposite here at our home, it is my DH who insists on having the second bathroom...go figure!

I picked up a 2 bedroom at old key west for Feb 14-21, I would think that is tougher than your week since it is presidents day?

I would think so too. But, if it doesn't hit, I can live with VWL. In fact, I'm half-hoping that I can just try out VWL, even in the smaller unit.
