  • Orlando Getaways For Orlando Owners

Just curious, I am wondering if those who only own something in the Orlando area can get Orlando Getaways?

And you don't own anything outside the Orlando area?

How about exchanging; can you get all other Orlando resorts?

We only own at MGV. We can see plenty of Orlando getaways. I can even see Westgate resorts that are normally blocked for exchanges due to regional block.

Are you having problems seeing getaways in Orlando?

I am pretty sure that Marriotts are exempt from the regional blocks, at least they used to be.

I don't think this is true. I can see a lot of Westgate weeks in getaways though I can't see any of them using my MGV week to exchange back in to Orlando.

But you can see other Orlando Marriotts, right?

Yes. The regional block does not apply to other resorts within your home resort group.

No. We dropped II long ago.

Our original resort was in Orlando, and we were dual affiliated. At that time Orlando II owners could not get Orlando Getaways. I took that issue up with II, arguing that Getaways are essentially rentals of excess inventory and it was an unfair restriction to offer them to everyone except for Orlando owners.

Amazingly, II agreed and opened Getaways for Orlando owners, but only if you also owned elsewhere, which we did.

Then, toward the end of our II affiliation, one day Orlando Getaways were blocked again. I took it up with them again and they said it was a glitch and they were going to correct that.

That's were I exited stage left.

I have wondered since our last tour at Wastegate, the week before Christmas 2006, because that was the offer made to us, and all of those around us in as many languages as I could figure out, an EOY to get unlimited Disney via Getaways. I assumed they had been opened up, but I know you can't assume anything based on a Wastegate weasel's say-so.

Here is where I was working on that:

I still can't get in. This is what it says:

                        Selected Area: Florida,Orlando

                        ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
                        ----

There is an error detected: NOT ALLOWED TO REQUEST THIS AREA

I e-mailed and called about this 2 or 3 weeks ago. The person I talked to
on the phone went away to check on it and when she returned she said that
she was told that the prior week there had been an error in Getaways on the
web-site and all Orlando owners had been able to get in. When they
"fixed"that problem, they "overfixed" it and closed it to Orlando owners who
also own elsewhere, such as us. It has not been "unfixed" yet.

We also own in at the (deleted) in Colorado. Doesn't that qualify
us to do Getaways to Orlando. We can use it to exchange there, why not to
                        take Getaways?

It just occurred to me that I was the one who provided Wastegate with their buy EOY to get Orlando Getaways pitch.

So it appears that II once restricted getaways to Orlando for Orlando owner, likely at the request of resort developers there. Now that Orlando is overbuilt they have a hard time selling the getaways they have so they have opened it up. I like that we can get getaways in to Orlando. We rarely use our MGV week to use at Grande Vista, instead we just buy getaways at MGV and exchange our MGV for other resorts outside of Orlando.

And now they can't use the buy an EOY to get Getaways to DVC pitch they last used on us.
