  • Questions about II

    Hello Everyone
I just recently purchased a resale timeshare off of e-bay. The timeshare is the First Cabin Club which is located in Lake Havasu City in Arizona. I am thinking about using Interval International to exchange the timeshare for a different location. The timeshare is a Flex week that can be used within the following weeks: wk #9 – wk #15 AND wk #43 – 47 AND wk# 51 - #52. Can someone give me some basic information about exchanging timeshares and what to expect? Also, can I search their database to find a timeshare that I like before paying to become a member?

Welcome to TS4MS,you have come to the right place. There is an incredible wealth of information available here. Your best bet is to read, read and read some more. Purchasing resale was smart, now doing the research to make the most of your purchase is your next task. I am not familiar with your resort, maybe someone else will be able to give more specific info.
As to II, you can browse their resort directory without becoming a member, but simply seeing what resorts they have, does not give you any indication of how likely you would be able to actually do an exchange into a desired property. One advantage of II over RCI is that once you are a member and have a unit registered with them, you can "test" its exchange possibilities without actually depositing it. Once you are a member you will also have access to their Getaways which are rentals at timeshare resorts with excess inventory, at (steeply) reduced rates.

The key to maximizing your exchange possibilities will be to reserve a high demand week within your flexchange period. Checking the Travel Demand Index on the II website (it's avialable in the Resort Directory at Intervalworld.com), it looks like weeks 51 and 52 have the highest demand within your float periods. So, first thing, call your resort to see if you can reserve either of those for 2009. If they are already booked, which wouldn't surprise me, try to book the next most attractive week(s) as shown in the index. If they are still available, I would book them right away, as you won't do better. Next year you will have a better head start. You will need to reserve a week before actually depositing it for exchange, though as Happymum has pointed out, you can play with different dates in your account once it is set up.

I am assuming your usage begins with 2009, is that correct?

Check DAE (Dial an exchange) also. I think First Cabin Club has an affliation with them. Spring break is also a good time to reserve in Havasu. There is an Ask DAE section on this forum.

Weeks 9 thru 13 are the most desirable so next year I will reserves one of those weeks. However, what happens if no one is interested in my timeshare? Will I still be able to use someone else’s timeshare somewhere else? Also, if there isn’t any other timeshare location that I am interested in can I request for my timeshare back?

I will check with Dial an Exchange as well.

          Thanks for your responses

When you exchange through II in essence they assign a trade value to your week based on their experience with its demand. You don't literally have to wait until someone asks for your week until you get your request. That may occur before (if what you want is available and you have the trade power to match it) or after.

II allows you to request first- that way, you don't give up use of your week unless you get a match that you want.
