  • Trading Value info from II

Just noticed this on the website:

    Trading Value

Interval International’s exchange program is based upon the concept of “comparable exchange”. In applying this concept, Interval works to provide you an exchange which is comparable in trading value to that of the week you have relinquished. The supply and demand of the week you relinquish is an important factor in determining its trading value and, ultimately, the week in to which you will be confirmed. World events, such as current health concerns regarding travel to Mexico, may reduce the demand for travel to the impacted region and, accordingly, may result in a reduced trading value for affected weeks.

I.I's secretive method for determining trade value isn't really anything new. It's really no surprise that when something happens to discourage people from wanting to go to a certain location, such as the swine flu, exceptionally high air fares, conflict, terrorist attacks et.....that trade value would go down. Less demand, less trade value. Trade value is always a moving target.

I suppose a good "for instance" of this would be what use to be the big COMDEX week in Las Vegas. At one time this was one of the largest trade shows in the world and getting any sort of room in Vegas was next to impossible. This show happened in November, which ordinarily isn't that busy of a time in Vegas. Developers even sold fixed weeks for COMDEX week at a premium.

A few years back, COMDEX went belly up and is no longer even an event in Vegas. Now there's another electronics trade show called CES that's taken it's place but, it's a different month than what COMDEX use to be. Needless to say, those COMDEX weeks, which use to have high trade power, have considerably lower trade power now.

Right now, NASCAR week in Vegas is a very strong week for timeshare and a tough week to be renting a hotel room. It's generally the first Sunday of March. Of course, this week can be a moving target and there's no guarentee that NASCAR will always be in Vegas or that it will always be that one particular week. If it ever moves, that week will lose a lot of trade power.

The National Finals Rodeo in December would be another example for Vegas. The loss of football's Pro-Bowel in Oahu is another example of an event week that is no more, resulting in what will probably be a lower trade value for that particular week. Super Bowel week can increase trade value for timeshares near that event every year.
