  • II goofed - any insight.......

I did an exchange online this morning. Cancelled this afternoon.

The II rep hit a wrong key on the computer and I noticed that my original week/unit now has a title of replacement week and a different expiration date. (as if I cancelled out of 24 hour window).

When I questioned - she saw the mistake.

Small issue: They can't refund my exchange fee - but I have a note on my account that when I do exchange it the fee has already been paid. Ok - no biggie - but of course when I exchange it online it will want a fee then I will have to call II to request the refund. Which will either be easy or just a royal pain depending on who answers the phone.

    Potential Issue:
Just don't know the answer to the question. I was concerned this week would loose it's original trade power. The supervisor said no. But, I am concerned as the week is still coded "replacement week" in the system.

Replacement weeks should have the same trading power as the original week. The tricky thing is that they are only good for one year. If I were you, I'd call back, speak with a supervisor, and get them to change the expiration date on the replacement to line up with your original deposit.

That is good - they did change the expiration date to my original. I was just worried about the trading power. I have been running searches and can most of what is out there. So, I'm good.

I would get it changed back to your original week. It might not be an issue for you but something to consider; here's why:

If you book something in the future and then cancel after the 24 hour period you could be hooped. II will not give you a replacement week on your replacement week (even though it's technically not but there would be no records of that). If you get it corrected, in the same scenario above, you would get a replacement week of your original week.

Agreed....Plus, it's going to be a hassle having to pay again, and then get another refund. Too complicated. I would call back, and have them straighten the whole thing out, now, while it's still fresh in everyone's mind.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

            What is a replacement week?

II is different than RCI in that with RCI, if you cancel an exchange, they return your spacebanked week, albeit with lower trader power depending on when you cancelled. With II, when you cancel an exchange, they don't return your spacebanked week to you. They give you a replacement week, usually with similar qualities as your original week but with some differences, depending on if it was part of a group with special characteristics (e.g. Marriott, Starwood, etc).

Thanks I wasn't even thinking of that. Guess I'll be spending some more quality time on the phone with II this morning!

They were very insistant that this was the only way to "fix" things. They cancelled by error and couldn't reverse. But, it was a Sunday and I assume they have more knowledgable staff during the regular week.

Often times you get different info from different reps at II. If need be, ask to speak to a manager/higher-up.
