  • newbie questions for MMO deposit or exchange

    Hello folks.
I just joined today and want to thank of the members for the great info and investment in your time.

I have been browsing around and trying to learn about Interval and how to exchanges, etc. but I would like your help advice.

I have owned MMO for a few years, but never exchanged.

My current reservations are at Marriott Maui Oceanclub (Lahaina Villa)
    1 week 8/8 (lock off)
1 week 8/15 (larger side? Not sure of term?)

I know that I do NOT want to use these reservations.
But I dont know where I want to go instead or when.

    My questions are many:
Do I Deposit asap? timing pros and cons?
Do I find a destination and time and Exchange instead? Pros? Cons?
I know my reservations are pretty good/valuable, so is there timing/exchanging value to be aware of?
I know these reservations are soon, did I lose out on other perks/value by not deposting earlier?
How long will I have to pick a destination?
Pro's & Con's of new Short Stays? seems like timing is a contraint.
As a newbie do I do all of this through Interval? via web or phone?
    Benefits of gold membership?

So many questions, so few brain cells

Thanks in advance for your advice.
    Cheers

YOU CAN DEPOSIT THIS WITH INTERVAL INTERNATIONAL TODAY AND STILL BE ABLE TO EXCHANGE IT - BUT BECAUSE IT IS BEING DEPOSITED LESS THEN 60 DAYS BEFORE CHECK-IN - IT WILL HAVE LIMITED TRADING.
WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT ALTHOUGHT YOU CAN EXCHANGE IT FROM NOW UNTIL AUGUST 2011, YOU CAN ONLY EXCHANGE 60 DAYS INTO THE FUTIRE.
EXAMPLE - YOU WANT TO TRAVEL NOVEMBER 8, 2009 - YOU CAN ONLY LOOK FOR THAT EXCHANGE 60 DAYS BEFORE - SEPTEMBER 8, 2009.
A REGULAR EXCHANGE WHICH U WILL BE ABLE TO GET WITH YOUR 8/15 CHECK-IN UNIT IF U DEPOSIT TODAY WOULD ALLOW U TO PUT IN A REQUEST OR SEARCH FOR THE NOVEMBER 8 CHECK-IN NOW.YOUR OTHER OPTION IS TO TRY AND RENT THIS RESERVATION....A WHOLE OTHER THING.

1 week 8/15 (larger side? Not sure of term?)
YOU MUST CALL INTERVAL INTERNATIONAL TODAY AND DEPOSIT THIS WEEK IN ORDER TO HAVE FULL TRADING VALUE/privileges . YOU WILL BE ABLE TO EXCHANGE FROM TODAY THRU AUGUST 2011. IF YOU DO NOT CALL TODAY AND DEPSOST, THIS WILL ALSO BE A "LIMITED EXCHANGE" AS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND HAVE MUCH LESS VALUE FOR YOU.
IF U DEPOSIT TODAY, YOU COULD PUT IN A REQUEST TO TRAVEL ANYTIME UNTIL AUGUST 2011 (ACTUALLY A 2 YEAR SEARCH LIMIT SO JUNE 2011)
    .
I know that I do NOT want to use these reservations.
But I don't know where I want to go instead or when.THAT IS OKAY - THE IMPORTANAT THING IS TO DEPOSIT

    My questions are many:
Do I Deposit asap? timing pros and cons?
Do I find a destination and time and Exchange instead? Pros? Cons?
I know my reservations are pretty good/valuable, so is there timing/exchanging value to be aware of?YES, IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO DEPOSIT 12 MONTHS OUT - YOUR TRADE VALUE BEGINS TO DECREASE BY 2 MONTHS INCREMENTS SO 10 MONTHS THEN 8 MONTHS, THEN 6, ETC.
HOWEVER, YOUR PROPERTY IS A HIGH DEMAND LOCATION AND WILL TRADE FAIRLY WELL EVEN WITH THIS VERY LATE DEPOSIT.

I know these reservations are soon, did I lose out on other perks/value by not depositing earlier? SEE ABOVE
How long will I have to pick a destination?SEE ABOVE
Pro's & Con's of new Short Stays? seems like timing is a constraint.YES, CALL INTERVAL TODAY TO DO THE 8/15 DEPOSIT - DID YOU HEAR ME SAY TODAY - I MEAN TODAY SO U GET IN BEFORE THE 60 DAY DEADLINE!!!
As a newbie do I do all of this through Interval? SEE ABOVE via web or phone?PHONE
Benefits of gold membership? - NO NEED TO DECIDE THIS TODAY - JUST TAKE A REGULAR MEMBERSHIP FOR NOW.

So many questions, so few brain cells

Thanks in advance for your advice.
    Cheers
Hopefully, II will let u join and deposit your unit on the same day....let us know how u make out.
Be sure to identify yourself as a Marriott owner when u call - they have a separate Marriott desk at II.

I was not able to deposit on the same day I joined. I joined on Thursday evening and I was able to deposit Saturday morning. I did this all online, if you call them they may be able to work out something different. The fact that it is a weekend makes me think they won't verify your ownership by the end of the day. Good luck.

If that is the case, see if u can call marriott owner services and change your 8/15 reservation to a future date - it must be more then 60 days from check-in - and that will give u more time to join II and deposit your week.

Hawaii has always been a high demand area/destination but unfortunately, this year is difference - the same reason u r not visiting (the economy) has also stopped other people from visiting.

        Good luck!

          Thank you for your replies.
I am trying to deposit both reservations as you suggested.
But...Somehow the 2 different reservations got messed up between Interval and Marriott and they are trying to figure it out.
I have been on-hold (with an agent) for 51 mintues and counting...

It seems Internal saw my 8/8 reservation as the full suite (master + lock off), which is incorrect.
and my 8/15 lock off reseration is not "visable" available for me to deposit.
(which I had previously attempted to exhange for a different week, but cancelled yesterday and now it is "gone") Very odd....

I will send an update later.

Thanks again, especially to you Pat!

            Update:
I hung up after 65 minutes on hold with no human interaction.

But, from the info I can see on the Interval website, they figured it all out and (as Pat explained) one of my deposits has full exchange value and the other one (under 60 days) is Flex only.

            Thanks again to all.

Now I have to find somewhere to go! Any Tahoe recommendations?
