  • Studio upgrades

Quite unexpectedly I inherited 3 unused studio weeks at Park Plaza, Park City when I bought the studio on the cheap this winter.

I went ahead and reserved all 3 for President's week 2007, which are good renter weeks.

But, if I decide to use them for exchange for personal use, a 1 bedroom minimum is usually necessary so I may want to put these into II and try to get a 1 bedroom.

Would like some advice as to where I might be able to exchange up for a 1 BR with this?

Typically, am looking for Southern California, Caribbean and Mexico from Fall to Spring, but I don't need any holiday weeks. Other suggestions welcomed.

Check unit sizes for resorts with minimum sizes of 1 or 2 bedrooms and request there. They can't give you anything small at those resorts.

      Exchanges using your studio units

      Hudson:

To embellish a bit on Tony G's accurate suggestion:

      1) On the exchange page at II, click on "list all available locations" (or some similar description)--there is a circle to check on the upper right just above the calendars. Plug in the dates, click on "search", and select the studio unit you wish to exchange. You will then see a list of all available locations for those dates using that unit. Click on each location that interests you, and you just might find a 1 br or even a 2 br at some resorts. Our studio returns plenty of studios, but there are a significant number of larger units out there. If your dates are in low or shoulder season, there will be even more.

      2) Place an ongoing search for where you would like to go. As Tony G says, only enter resorts whose smallest units are 1 br, so II cannot automatically exchange you into a studio. E.G. Marsha and a couple of her old friends from NY wanted to go to Sanibel/Captiva a couple of years back. We placed an ongoing search for only those resorts with 2 br units (with our 1br deposit). 5 days later II confirmed her into a 5* resort (one of the highest rated in FL) with 2 br, 3 ba.

Bottom line: it can be done. Good luck!

and this is because....II exchanges 'like for like' - if you deposit a studio, in most situations they will give you a studio.
However, if you can 'see' it online, you can exchange into it...
But the tip about looking for and requesting resorts with 1BR and larger is very good!

            Timing for II search

Havng not spent any time doing searches with II before, can anyone recommend a particular time of day when II is more loaded with deposits?

I recall someone on this forum did have personal experience to share on this, but don't recall who that was.

            Any help appreciated.

I think a good time to search is early morning. As soon as you have had your first cup of coffee...go for it.

I also like searching around midnight....

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.
