  • New to II

Hello and thanks in advance for your help.

While I have been a member of RCI for a number of years, I recently purchased an II affiliated resort and joined II.

Is there any benefit to depositing first before requesting an exchange?

I have a 2006 week 35 Cape Cod week to deposit. When I look online, they are offering me an AC. Does that have any significant worth?

    Thanks

Why would you take a "near-tiger" trader with RCI and deposit it in Intervals???

From everything I have heard Cape Cod weeks do not do well with Intervals as most are converted motels, etc are smaller units and don't have high enough quality to get super trades with them.

I own a week 35 and would never even consider giving it to Intervals.

Your problem now is your 2006 week is less than 4 months out and you will have reduced trading power with it. Even a cape cod summer week should be deposited at least 10 months out. Maybe you can rent it this year?

Yes, deposit it as soon as you can. The longer before check in the greater trading power it will have.

An AC will get you a nice TS for between $200- $300, for travel during off season or to high supply areas. It can also get you many additional places within 45 days of travel.

      Good Luck

        I know, I know ...

        Lawren,

Unfortunately the resort (Colonial Acres) is only affiliated with II. While the resort is generally a motel conversion, the unit I own is a 2 BR stand alone cottage with a full kitchen and central air. We love the place and bought it to use, but for this year and next it falls the week of Labor Day as opposed to the week before which is generally the week we go on vacation.

I have been trying to rent it at what I think is a fair price (obvisouly the market feels otherwise) for a number of months and have had no bites having used TUG and Bidshares. I feel that if I wait much longer, I might lose all of my trading power.

When I look on the II site using the week before I deposit it, it seems to pull quite a bit (although I don't really have a point of comparison).

Any other advise would be appreciated.

        Thanks,
        Matt

          Matt.

          OUCH.

You may do well with Interval I really couldn't say. At least they don't "ding" you as much for a later deposit. and it's a 2 bedroom which should give you more options.

I see from your area code on your listing that you are up here in my area of the world. The one thing I do not like about Intervals is they have very little east coast Maine to N Carolina beach and fewer caribbean choices than RCI.

I have posted a thread asking SFX if they would take it? The rep on our "Ask SFX" forum is very responsive. They usually do 5* but perhaps they could use a 2BED cape week?

Rentals. Most rental people will just be starting to look for this summer now. The best thing about week 35 is it IS Labor Day weekend and the cape is hard to get for that, the last big weekend of summer. Plus Colonial Acres is on the water.

You can list it here on our classifieds for free if you want. You should be able to get $775 for it! Worst case you list it on ebay.

I'm debating on renting mine next year if RCI doesn't give me what I want for a trade by the time September rolls around. So I'd be curious to see what happens with yours if you decide to rent.

You may want to try redweek.com even though they charge a bit more now....the response is usually better. So far I have had only one response from my tug rental ad and that was from a scam artist. Bidshares is hit or miss...I have had some success in the past. You may also want to try craigslist.com for free ads.

I agree with Lawren...tiger traders do well in RCI.

The value of a bonus week(there are differences) depends on what you can get for it and what it will cost you. Best bet is to get the most information about it that you can from II before you deposit.

                SFX will accept your unit!!!!

Lawren - Thank you for your post. With regret, we are unable to work with Cape Winds. However, we can work with Colonial Acres. Hope this helps...

                  Now I'm even more confused

Thank you very much Lawren for helping me out with this. (By the way we are neighbors. I live in New City).

Now, here are my options the way I see them:

                  1) Deposit with II. This will allow me to use the week for up to 2 years past the date of my week and will give me an AC which may or may not be useful.

                  2) Deposit with SFX. While I don't know much about them, I do know that they specialize in high quality resorts.

                  3) Try to rent the week. This I see as somewhat risky as the longer I wait the weaker my trade power will be should I be unable to rent.

                  HELP!!

I am also in New City!

I don't trust Interval. I have heard things about how they handle cape cod weeks. It would be like telling my sister to deposit her Mexico week in RCI. Your resort is unrated there (probably for the Bates Motel conversion part) and they are funny about that kind of thing.

Read up on SFX. Ask questions. See if the areas they have listed suit your needs ( I'd die for their Barbados resorts in spring or London in summer ) Mark is very willing to answer questions you may have.

Here is a SFX primer: http://www.sfx-resorts.com/time-shar...e-process.html

I wish they would take mine but I didn't think they would and now I know for certain.

I still think you can rent it but would be more inclined to deposit with SFX if I could be flexible with vacation plans or destinations that they serve.

                      Must travel peek times

Maybe I need to add that I have 2 school aged children which limit my vacations to holiday weeks and the end of the summer.

Me too! As a matter of fact I need to go register DS for Rams football tonight.

The good news is "our" end of summer is later than most of the country's end of the summer ( see here: http://www.timeshareforums.com/showthread.php?t=5329 )

                          Late is good

Late summer is good. That's why week 35 is perfect for me. I was able to buy a great unit for under $2K with maintenance fees of around $500 in an area which we had been renting a house every year for nearly $1K. I'm not complaining.

Football for you? I'm off to New City Little League now, and my son has been asking for soccer in the fall. We are in Little Tor Elementary. You?

Laurel Plains although DS is now at Festa Middle School.

LOVE week 35 ( at least 3 years out of 7 ) BUT DS birthday is 8/28 and he no longer wants to go away for his birthday.....spoilt. I would LOVE to always be on vacation every year for my birthday... BUT he made another "exception" next year for London.

I'm new to all of this & I DO belong to RCI but was think of changing to II because of increasing prices w/RCI ......BUT now that I read your post with the quote "It would be like telling my sister to deposit her Mexico week in RCI." I have no idea what that means & would love to know. (I own Cabo Villas in Cabo San Lucas Mexico)
I DID deposit a week from Mexico to RCI once....sounds as if it were a foolish thing to do but I don't understand why. Please help me understand.

I've been reading these forums like crazy for hours now..I'm a new member today & find them very informative.
