Ongoing Search . . . Caveat Emptor

Yeah, I don't much like them to begin with cuz it has been demonstrated you cannot trust RCI's glitchy computers, but I started one figuring, what the heck, I can still search for myself whenever I want.

***First, John the Friendly Guide selected the incorrect subregion, we got a match where we do not want to go, and I had to toss that back and change to the correct subregion.

***We only can use 2 checkin dates, 1/8 or 1/9. I had set it up for two destinations, one for 1/8 and one for 1/9, with 0 (zero weeks). The second Guide said he could take care of that using one destination. When I checked it online, it only had 1/8. That is a Friday, with very few resorts in that area with checkins on that date. That eliminated the 1/9 checkin, almost all of the resorts. So I modified it back to 2 destinations, one for 1/8 and one for 1/9.

***It had been showing all days of the week when it should have been showing Friday and Saturday only, so when I got the email update today I decided to do that modification. The update showed 1/8 and 1/9 as check-in dates, but when I opened it online, it was showing 1/8 only again. Since I cannot trust it to search for both 1/8 and 1/9, I modified it to be 1/9 only.

Well, so much for the first week.

It appears that the web site does not list the search dates properly---I have two different searches going, for two different weeks, each with just a friday and saturday check-in day. One lists only the Friday check-in, for one week. The other lists the correct check-in days, but for five weeks.

I have called twice, and mailed feedback once, each time asking them to tell me the effective dates of the searches. On each occasion, the one RCI has internally is correct.

So, just because the web site said you were only searching for 1/8, that doesn't make it so.

The info on the website for ongoing searches is wrong... or lacking at best. I swear the guides make it up as they go along so you can't trust them either.

However, it seems if you click thru the ongoing request to modify request, let it search for you and come back with no results, it then shows the active search parameters on screen. Make sure those are the correct dates - and ignore what it says on the first intial summary screen which usually shows a one day seach parameter. If you need to modify the search dates you have to wait overnight to see that change take effect - or at least I did. It did not update immediately or even within a few hours for me.

If you have a deposit left to play with I suggest you do set up the 2nd seperate ongoing search back up using the 1/8 date. What do you have to lose? You can continue to manually search using Take a Peek and if it happens to grab a 1/8 date then you win.

I am locked into using RCI. I have to do all I can to get what I want... even if it's cumbersome, frustrating, and a crap shoot.

I just checked it and it said it was searching for 5 weeks, when I had selected 0 weeks. I changed it and entered a second search for 1/8.

We'll see.

Just checked it again and it is back to 5 weeks, and 1/8 is not showing. Then when I open it up to modify it, both the 1/9 and 1/8 dates show.

The email confirming the modification has it right, two searches with no alternate dates, one of 1/8 and one for 1/9.
