Has anyone else noticed that RCI is renting stuff?

It seems that the classaction suit did not really get into how TS owners are being hurt by it, the dollars and cents of it.

Most of my ragging has been over not being able to get exchanges we useta get, but that is not the only way we are hurt, personally.

Buoyed by CaliDave's apparent success with Grand Pacific, about five years ago I contacted our home resort management team and HOA about how RCI rentals were contributing to the demise of what had been a fairly successful, in-house, rental program. Up until then we had been able to pretty much recoup our maintenance fees and the program provided revenue for resort operations.

The HOA was substantially less than disinterested in my message and the resort manager forwarded my email to RCI. Of course, they denied the existence of such programs. Needless to say, today that resort's rental program is somewhere between pathetic and non-existent.

Then, just this morning, this . . . We have weeks at a very nice Branson golf resort we need to rent. In fact, several of us do. Our fees are $600/year (plus $24 Guest Fee). I had an inquiry yesterday, but that person is able to get the same place and others in the area through RCI for:

    1 bdrm May 01-May 08 (7) $329.00* ($47*/night)
    2 bdrm May 01-May 08 (7) $329.00* ($47*/night)
    2 bdrm May 01-May 08 (7) $329.00* ($47*/night)
    1 bdrm May 01-May 08 (7) $329.00* ($47*/night)
    1 bdrm May 08-May 15 (7) $329.00* ($47*/night)

He is not a timeshare owner or RCI member.

At the very least, don't you think it would be fair that information of this nature should have to be disclosed at all sales presentations?

I brought it up at my last sales presentation, complete with printouts of rental availability and pricing. It was a short presentation.

Same here at our last Wastegate sales pitch, Christmas 2007. Not RCI, but beaucoup Orlando rentals for less than maintenance fees. It still took close to four hours because they made us sit and watch, then wait in their three exit lines. But we got breakfast, and Disney for our youngins. Too bad they didn't appreciate it.

Now that I think about it, we haven't invited them along since. Hmmmmm.
