How do you know a timeshare salesman is lying? His lips are moving...

Not to say that those statistics are lies, but they do conceal the reality that a vast majority are disappointed when they find that their off-season so-called Gold Crown in Mugwump Swamp isn't getting them into all of the fabulous resorts that they were shown when they bought...

Since this is generally believed to be the case, that timesharing, especially exchanging, does not work anything like people are told in order to get them to buy, which normally involves a significant amount of money, why do you think it is that so few are willing to file a complaint?

          JLB,
You should move to Florida permanently. We've got enough lawyers here living in our state that you could keep yourself busy fighting all these fights and defending the mugwump owners.
          (BTW where is mugwump swamp?).
In these parts swamp land can command a fortune.

I'm so sick of lawyer commercials 24/7 here. We do everything down here to try to stay out of the lawyers nets. That might be why no one ever bothers to fight this cause. It all goes to the lawyers anyway. We generally hold lawyers in very low regard down here, nobody trusts them. I certainly don't want to spend years in such a close relationship with any of them (except my cousin).

Beats me. We own at Slimey Slough.

I've been familiar with FL swampland for more than 30 years. Our Florida limit is about 2 weeks.

Believe it or not, I believe our own AG has something like 74 complaints against Wastegate.

RCI weeks will be showing trading power by the end of the year. It will make a lot of TS reps nervous and I'm sure it's going to irritate those whose expect the world for a studio in bumfluff nowhere wintertime, in return for the Florida Keys high season.
It's probaly going to be color coded online. As in if the color of your week is blue, you can only trade against blue.
Points won't be affected because there's already a points value allocated to your ownership, so you already know what you're entitled to.

Please don't expect any replies to my post

This thread is about availability in SW FL, or lack thereof, and what happened to the 60% that disappeared 5/30, rather than trading power, but as long as we have digressed, yesterday I deposited two 2011 weeks. Formerly they had been as good as anyone's, trading-powerwise, but got demoted a year ago. One of them, for 2010, is still my best trader, just a lower best trader, not as good as others are seeing.

The numbers on the 2011s are now the lowest of my deposits, substantially lower than my previous lowest, but, strangely, they, too are significantly different.

In business, as in life, you like to know what you buy, and these freaking games that have been/are being played cannot be explained away satisfactorily. Based on history, one can only assume that they are being played for the worst of reasons.

Yeah, I've been told changes are coming this year, that it will be things I will like.

Whether honesty (telling you upfront what you are buying rather than the universal you can go anywhere, any time pitch) is really going to break out in the timeshare industry after 36 years, is yet to be seen. If it does, however, for us it would be more than 20 years too late.

What will their compensation formula be, say refunding the value of your original purchase attrributed to exchanging?

Please expect replies to my post.

Speaking of cherries for cherries and lemons for lemons, and so forth, since there has been an implication that some feel entitled to trading up, although a few times in our 100-plus exchanges we actually got accomodations somewhat resembling the luxurious, plush models everyone is shown in sales presentations, we have never expected that, nor do we now.

As it is today, we expect exactly the opposite, to trade down, to give up a luxurious, plush, decked-out, 2-bedroom Gold Crown, with all the bells and whistles amenities, middle of peak season, to get a small, spartan unit at a resort that was converted from a motel 30 years ago.

That, exactly, is our expectation, something we have grown down to over the years, and even that is hard to come by.

Well, having the trade power showing will certainly make it clearer to many people to see "why" RCI isn't giving a certain trade asked for.....but who is determining the value....it is still RCI....I don't care if it is points, blue, purple or orange....RCI has the manipulative control over the end result, and they skew it to push more inventory out of paying members' reaches into the rental sites and so-called "EV".....

...more than likely once they add trade power feature, they will add the "deposit plus cash" feature.....so your blue week can get you that motel for another $700 .... plus your deposit.

                    RCI....Ransacking Customer's Income/Investment

If RCI is going to rent deposits on the Wyndham Vacations rental site....the very same inventory that they offer to paying RCI members, as rentals in EV's ....why bother to pay RCI to be a member? An extremely high membership fee, mind you. Add to your membeship fee the high cost of doing an exchange, and why on earth would anyone want to be a member?

Wyndham is FREE, open to anyone for no cost.

A post such as yours, spoken as if you are in a place to be in the know, will most definitely generate replies to your post....if you mean you will not reply to ours, no problem....we can speculate all on our own, as you can see.

I agree with Katie. After trying to trade my Wyndham points for an RCI exchange, they tell me that Orlando is red all year. Oh really? I find that very hard to believe. Even Wyndham doesn't consider Orlando red all year.
So I see what you mean that this will definetely be skewed and definetely to their favor (RCI's that is).

Maybe you missed it, but I have reported that already started with us, including even our 2 bedroom, Gold Crown, peak season . . . & they didn't even require us to give up a deposit.

Well today there was a week in Sanibel for April 17th. Not primetime for my buddy JLB but Easter break for my son. The studios are large enough that it will be comfortable for us and it is directly on the beach.

One minor problem is that out of ALL the weeks I had in the weeks account only a primetime summer Cape Cod was seeing this lowly little resort. I ended up booking it with points as that was the best use/least expense option.

                            See how it works?

We have been weaned away from expecting anything decent, like the pre and early Cendant days, so that when we're tossed a little bone we are ecstatic.

It's almost like 20 years ago when we got our first January SW FL week, on the wrong side of the road at the Lahaina Inn, and thought we'd really cut a fat hog, cuz we didn't know any better.

You know how to boil a bullfrog, don't you?

Glad to be your Bud, and have you for a Bud.

As for me, today, I am ecstatic, cuz later on I'm going to go check a guy into one of our weeks at a Gold Crown here. I'm tickled to be getting $200 cash, for our $600 MF week.

                              If he shows up.

I'm one of the lucky ones.

I found a business that works in the Ozarks . . . renting TS weeks for 1/3 of the MF.
