FORGET SILVER OR GOLD…RCI GOES PLATINUM FOR ITS POINTS MEMBERS
From priority access on specialty inventory to upgraded accommodations – the world’s largest points exchange program takes it to the next level
PARSIPPANY, N.J. (March 9, 2010) – RCI, the global leader in vacation exchange today announced its plan to launch RCI Points PlatinumSM membership, a new premium membership and the latest enhancement to its successful RCI Points® program, that will offer exclusive exchange and lifestyle benefits to subscribing members.

“RCI launched its groundbreaking global Points exchange product in 2000 and it’s been the fastest growing Points exchange program in the world ever since,” said Geoff Ballotti, CEO, RCI. “Our members seek unique access and expanded benefits and the RCI Points Platinum membership provides just that – offering exclusive member deals and access to a phenomenal selection of member benefits and services. For our valued affiliates, this new membership provides a meaningful differentiator at the point of sale, reinforcing RCI Points as the most proven, comprehensive and flexible exchange membership available in the industry today while becoming more relevant in their owners’ daily life.”

RCI Points Platinum will offer its members exclusive “first look” exchange access to specially acquired inventory around the world at upscale properties in highly sought after vacation destinations. “Members that have looked for an exchange in New York or London may have found few options because the demand may have been higher than supply. To help, RCI acquires millions of dollars of upscale hotel and condominium inventory in dozens of highly demanded vacation and city destinations every year. We will expand this program and provide our RCI Points Platinum members with a first look at this inventory for exchange,” Ballotti added.

RCI Points Platinum will also provide members with free unit upgrades based on availability providing even more room to relax and Cash Back rewards for various RCI transactions. In addition to these extremely exciting advancements in exchange, RCI plans to extend unique lifestyle benefits to RCI Points Platinum members that will include advance access to popular Broadway style theater experiences including select opportunities to attend pre-launch and producer shows. For the golf and ski connoisseur, RCI Points Platinum members will receive preferred pricing or discounts of up to 50 percent at thousands of golf courses and dozens of the most popular ski mountains in North America. Taking the member experience further than ever before, RCI Points Platinum plans to extend other significant savings benefits of up to 50 percent on spa experiences and much, much more allowing RCI Points Platinum members to get more out of their vacation experience.

“As the inventor of the vacation exchange business, we’re always looking to develop fresh new ideas that will improve our members’ experiences and exceed the expectations of our affiliates,” said Ballotti. “The RCI Points Platinum membership brings terrific new benefits to the RCI Points program. We’re excited to be able to give our members what they’ve asked for from a status and access standpoint, with dozens of lifestyle benefits included that we’ll continue to add to going forward. We’re really just getting started.”

RCI plans to launch the RCI Points Platinum membership in the United States and Canada with other regions to follow. Member benefits may vary in other regions.

So it's the latest "enhancement" for developers to use on the sales floor. Non-platinum members get pushed to the back.

I wonder if they'll set it up so that you the only way a member can be platinum is via a developer?
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

    “You shouldn't wear that body.”

Probably just another moneymaking scheme to screw the general membership and collect more fees.

I'm not so cynical as to believe they are doing it simply to screw the general membership. I think they are more generally indifferent to the membership.

Their true customers are the developers, and they are doing it to help the developers with the sales program.

Color me shocked if it were to turn out that the roll-out of this program was part of Disney's decision to return to RCI. Not.

reminds me a bit of the DRI product.

I wonder what it takes to be Platinum? Probably not worth it but curiosity...

and yeah the Hyatts in Morristown, NJ and Irvine California are right up there where I would want to stay on vacation.

There are some nice Hyatt hotel units in high demand city locations as well.

This thread is going to ooze with cynicism for the next few pages, and rightly so!

RCI already has a high-end group of resorts in its Registry Collection (RC), which has its own points scheme. So I don't know what's going on here.

Sounds like a scheme to get yet more blood out of the stone...

Ahh - I forgot about Registry Collection.

But to be in RC you have to own at one of the RC member resorts. This "Platinum" scheme sounds as if it might be open to all resorts. So this program might be the upsell for the resorts that are not part of Registry Collection.

If that's the case, I expect that RCI would treat the Registry Collection inventory as a completely separate pool. It would be brought into the main spacebank as external inventory, similar to what they would be doing with Hyatt and Marriott hotels. Meanwhile, the Registry Collection resorts will still be in the RCI book, so the sales people can tell prospects that by going to Platinum they will be first in line to get inventory from those resorts.

Hyatt is our favorite hotel chain. We have stayed in Hyatt Resorts, Hyatt Regency, Grand Hyatts in several locations. The Hyatt Regency in Palm Springs just completed a 115 million dollar renovation. The one in Garden Grove, CA ( near Disneyland ) is undergoing a major renovation. We have stayed at both of these recently for $80 /nt for a suite.

Its on there website for $55 a year. Anyone buy in? Wonder what difference it makes? Just another way the nickel and dime ya or an actual benefit. There should be a trial period to see what the difference is.

Tried it last year - no help to me

I tried this last year and it did nothing for me. Of course the two places I went to were unlikely to lead me to an upgrade anyway. Manhattan Club and Jackson Hole, WY during Christmas week.

I have a feeling that you are right just like II is rolling out something similar too at the end of the year and may complement the Marriott developer since they have gone over to selling trust points only.

The big developers need the big exchange companies and visa versa to get more fees from the present timeshare owners just to stay in business and by offering more perks to make the exchanges, they may succeed. There will be exchangers who are willing to pay for the extra perks.

Will they introduce exchanges with a "guaranteed view", for instance? It will cost you more but you know what you are getting and do not have to wonder about it all year long.

Marriott has introduced this already with their internal exchange system and I wonder if the platinum membership for II and RCI will have something similar too but at a cost, of course, to the timeshare owners.
