There are soooooooo many resorts in the Riviera Maya area, I can't imagine that they can't do better for you.

If they can't and you are willing to go non-AI, I highly recommend the Royal resorts. I like the resort on the Bay side as it is a much easier entry into the ocean with the MIL. My Mom who also has RA pretty badly was able to get into the ocean here and it doesn't have waves like the Atlantic side does so she wasn't worried about falling and she can also steady herself on the dock as the water is shallow for a few hundred feet out.

The Royal Cancun or the Club International de Cancun as it's also know as is the resort I'm talking about. Because it is their oldest resort the prices are usually cheaper and you can get a beachfront townhouse where she could just walk out the door and be on the beach. The pools are very nice also and they have some days when they give you free tacos and snacks for the owners. I'm not an owner but no one asked for ID. You can also resort hop to the other Royals as a guest and they assign you a personal concierge that will help make your stay memorable. Your son can do sailing lessons for free at the resort and take a shot at sailing on his own. This location is also close to downtown so you can hit Wal-Mart and stock the fridge. They've got lots of restaurants also nearby and also in the resort.

Unfortunately Royal resorts is not part of RCI, only II. Don't know if you have an II account and probably there isn't much there anyway but You can rent directly from the resort fairly reasonable and of course if you are willing to do their TS tour which is pretty low key (think Marriott tours or even DVC tours) they'll cut you a deal, I'm sure.

Good luck to you and I hope it all works out.

I have only a very passing interest in Mexican resorts but I believe when the Royal RTU deeds came due they did enroll with RCI.

Hence the disclaimer that I have next to no interest in Mexican resorts.

Thanks for catching my error. I appreciate it and wouldn't want a member to get bad information from anyone, especially me.

I thought Club International ( or something close to that name) was also a Royal and had RCI association but I couldn't locate it, or it doesn't have any exchange availability at this time, when I did a very fast search, in between 10 other projects I've got going today...

well, I am going to wait untill monday, and see if they step up to the plate and make this right for us. I am not really sure what I will do if they let me down. I may be reduced to letting my hubby on the phone, and that could get ugly fast! for their sake I hope they take care of me.

Don't just sit on your butt; be PROACTIVE about this!

I know, you shouldn't have to.

Customer service is NOT the thing RCI does best at the moment. If you want to rescue this vacation, you will have to hound them and hound them with facts!

I agree with Lawren. If there's something posted here that you want, get on the phone!! They've got tons of unhappy customers to deal with, don't count on them to prioritize you!

RCI does not seem to be a fan of PROACTIVE customers. I have it in my head that this thing needs to be resolved today (as we travel on friday, and I have other things to worry about) and so I have made many calls and left many messages. I guess that ticked my service guy off, and he was pretty darn rude. "we will let you know when we know something, you will just have to wait, stop calling" Ahhhhh NO! I deserve to have this resolved today one way or another! and if they do not call me in the next 2 hours, I will be calling them, and continuing to escalate. When he finally let me get a word in edgewise, I said that if you can not get me into an acceptable resort I want my money back and a supervisor week for each room I had booked, and little old me (not the worlds biggest time share exchange company) will find a place on my own. Only problem now, is I am not really sure what the supervisor week is. I just saw that one of the other posters mentioned it, and it sounded pretty good.

The supervisor week is a "bonus week" in your account - it's not great, but better than nothing. It can't be used online, only by phone. And I seem to recall some limitations on how far in advance you can book, but I think that depends. It's only good for one year, that I'm pretty sure about. I really hope you get set with something. Your dates are tough because it's a holiday week

Well after wasting the better part of four days worrying, and phoning and being lied to, and maybe posting on a few forums, I am right back where I started, I have 2 new confirmations from RCI in my hands for the same units in the same resort. Thanks for wasting my time, and adding to my stress RCI!

I am sooo sorry you had to go thru that. But at least you have what you always had.

Thank you, I will certainly try!!!! I just need to talk to the resort to double check that I am really booked with them, and then I will be able to go on with life again. For some reason I don't have a lot of confidence in RCI's written confirmations anymore.

And have someone at the resort send you a confirming email.

I think you should, when you get back from your trip, call RCI and ask for a supervisor. Then try to wrangle a refund of your exchange fees for your troubles, and/or anything else you might be able to manage.

But for now, don't waste another breath with RCI (though do get confirmation from the resort), and have a great time!!!!

Now that makes absolutely no sense at all. Why waste your time, the resort's time and RCI rep's time? What a not so funny joke!

well I got confirmation from the hotel, and they are giving us the premium traveler package ( not that i know what that is, but so far we have express check in and we got to book all of our restaurants for the week.) But at least it is some sort of gesture of goodwill, a lot more than I ever saw from RCI, I go through almost 5 days of grief, and I end up with I should have had all the time, plus a few more wrinkles, and not the smallest gesture of remorse from RCI.
