every other year i tell myself i have pionts, spent some good money on them lets go on vacation. and every year there's never anything available. i have 61K points due to expire in june.

i'm thinking of cutting my loses and just not signing on with rci anymore... can i set up my timeshare with another company? or does anyone else feel the same way?

Points work well for me. Where do you want to go and what time of year do you want to go there and what size unit is your minimum? If could be just a matter of knowing when you need to look to get what you want.

In regards to using other exchange companies, what resort do you own, is it fixed or floating? If it floats, how does your week get assigned if you were to choose to use it instead of depositing with RCI? Can you pick your week or do they assign it to you?

this year alone i didn't find a resort on the strip (vegas), no availabilities in hawaii, new orleans or london. all but new orleans were flexible dates with minimum unit size. i have had vacation elert set up since december.

I do not know what your requirements are. But I see at 10 resorts available in Vegas and 6 in Hawaii from early July to end of Aug; searching both points and weeks.

those requirements never find a spot. vegas resorts are not on the strip and i haven't checked hawaii since march. nonetheless i've still yet to find a good vacation using rci

RCI just doesn't do London well so forget about that. Hawaii and New Orleans are not hard if you plan. However, a 1 bdr in Hawaii may cost you all of those 61K points. If your points expired next June instead of this June, you could book Wyndham Ka'eo Kai in February. In fact, if you don't mind paying a $99 fee to extend those points for a year, you can book that right now. Or how about the Kaanapali Beach Resort in late August or September?

The Kona Billfisher is available at the end of June and twice in July for 36K without extending your points.

The Plaza Suite and the Quarter House are available in July in New Orleans.

The Carriage House is also available in July in Vegas. The Carriage House and HGVC at the Flamingo are available in October, November and December if you want to extend your points past July.

Ding, you are now free to move about the country.

How close do you need to be on the strip?

Many 1br and 2br available thru Aug at Summer Bay, HGVC on the Strip, and Grandview

Thx for checking. My pts expire june 31,2010. I wasn't able to find anything this year, why would I save them for next?

NO is in may so july wouldn't work out for me. I did see hilton was close but its still farther than walking distance.

Ill check hawaii again but I doubt ill be there before june.

You would extend them to immediately book a unit later in the year on Maui, New Orleans or Vegas. This stuff is there now.

The address of the HGVC at the Flamingo is 3575 Las Vegas Blvd. S. - doesn't get much strippier than that.

As far as other companies go, you might try Hawaii Timeshare Exchange, HTSE for inventory there or alternatively Trading Places International - Timeshare Rentals, Exchange, Resales, and Travel Services .
Dial an Exchange, Timeshares & Time Share Exchange Service-DAELive.com , gets a fair amount of Hawaii. You might also ask DAE about Vegas. London is extremely tough with any exchange company.

I don't own points but it seems to me you don't know how to make the most use of your points. You are getting very good suggestions. Everything in Vegas that they are seeing are very close or on the strip. Even if you stay further away most everyone has shuttles. Summer bay is behind the Imperial Palace . The HIltons are on the strip altho you walk thru the Hilton which is right there (it's my fav resort in vegas) We are here to help. I can hear the frustration in your voice. shaggy

Are you asking about using other exchange companies? If so, it depends on what the requirements are of the company you choose. First, you have to tell RCI that you will use your unit instead of depositing and getting points. There is a timeframe that you have to do that between 13 months before check-in and 12 months before. You will need to check me on that because I never did that.

At that point you should be free to deposit with whatever independent you choose. You give that company your deposit information and they will verify with your resort. Or you go to the resort and use your time during week 20...maybe that's what you were really asking...

Unless it has changed, you reserve your unit at the 13-month reservation window. Reserve by the same way as other exchanges. You are not charged during the home resort reservation window.

I was told by my resort a saver way is to let the them know and they will block the deposit to RCI so that there is not deposit by mistake. I don't know if other resorts are willing to do the same.
