Is it worth it to change to RCI points? It certainly isn't worth paying anything more than $200 to $400 to do so and then (and this would apply to buying a week already converted to points) only if you like your underlying week or float season, and get the number of points that works for your vacation needs and has a reasonable points/MF ratio. Like any TS purchase you want to research the stability of MF, history of assessments, owner vs developer controled board, etc. It also takes a while to learn how best to use your points.

As to the availability in Park City for your date, I don't see anything. I found that if you want the weekend using points you usually need to book at the 10 month mark. For places with a lot of inventory or for shoulder and off season availabilty you may see inventory at 5-9 months for the weekend. Also resorts that have overly high points value (for the location, quality and demand) might have later availability. I did see 2 day availability for Sun-Tues.

Another thing to remember is that points reservations of less than a week often have additional cleaning fees of $40-$70 depending on the size. This makes short stays using points cost more because MF paid on the week only covers 1 cleaning and HOA owners pass the additional costs onto the points users.

I have both points and weeks and I like both for different situations. Sometimes using 45 day inventory in weeks with points, its less expensive to pay the $179 exchange fee and 6500-9000 points and get a place for a week even if I only need 3 days.

Whether it's worth it depends on your expectations. It's late to be looking for something in the summer anywhere. If you normally can't plan more than 4 months in advance, the only way it works for you is to be flexible enough to take the last minute inventory within 45 days of check-in. These would be full weeks units from the RCI weeks inventory that you can grab at the reduced point levels.

If you normally plan 10 months to 2 years in advance, there is no reason it can't work for you.

You need to remember that ''benefits'' from ''Points Partners'' are generally illusory, and that the extra costs of split week stays make them often uneconomical. A weeks based system is best for exchanging.

Points are ok but don't count on 45 day reservations. 10 to 13 months out if you have enough points. Buy your points and deed on ebay. I've seen 85000 points and a deed at a Gold Crown resort for a buck.Stay away from people like Buddy and Faye Porter.

I think its worth it. Would you like to stay at a Disney Vacation Club resort? They have many weeks available.

Using points, you can only book at a RCI "Points only" resort up to 10 months out.
Using your points you can book up to 2 years out on weeks inventory. This decreases depending when your points expire, the points have to be still valid on your travel date. Points are good for 2 years and then you can pay RCI to extend them for a 3rd year (approx. $115).
