  • RCI's search engine is terrible. II has a much better product.

I really enjoy searching in the II system.....I can select Search All Destinations, enter up to a two-year range of time, select a week to search on and voila Lots and lots of choices, even for this summer for many popular places. If I don't like what I see with my selected week, I can change the week, leaving all of my other data intact.

With RCI you can only select one area at a time and you have to put in a range of dates of ten weeks maximum. Talk about a not user friendly travel site. RCI is not a great system.

    Not so bad

Cindy - I'm not a fan of either system (especially the RCI system which seems to be designed/operated by an AOL programmer reject) but I would guess that at least part of the difference is simply the amount of data each has to sort through. The amount of inventory and locations in RCI dwarfs the II database. It's easier and faster to search through far less data. By limiting the criteria allowed they lower the demand for processing power. Just a theory but it would make sense.

Overall I have found the RCI Points system to be the best to search in but it still is far from ideal and does carry those geographic and date restrictions. II seems rather rinky dink by comparison. That impression is reinforced by the fact that they shut down when there is severe weather in the south FL area - they apparently have no online backup data center to switch over to. In this day and age that is unforgivable for a "large" company. It makes me wonder how big II really is.
