  • Website canceling searches

I have had an ongoing search set up for a while. A couple of weeks ago (after the latest major maintenance) something matched that I did not want I and I released it. The RCI website canceled the entire search a few hours later (at least that was when I got the email). This has happened now several times and I finally called RCI tech support. Apparently this is a know new glitch.

I am sure many people do not even realize their searches are being canceled. I was advice that, until this is fixed, I need to call RCI to release a week on hold - do not release it on the website.

And today I was advised that my ongoing search was also cancelled....the only problem is that I didn't have an ongoing search!

Hm that's interesting because I haven't gotten my ongoing search to show up on the RCI website AT ALL. Is this because I set up the search through HGVC, not RCI directly?

I guess I should mention that this is not a random glitch. If you release a week on hold through your ongoing search, it will cancel your search every time. This is what I was told by RCI tech support. What I don't understand is why they can't fix it since it is so duplicatible.

My sense is that nothing in the software changes---at all---except on the Saturday evening maintenance periods.

Absolutely - you cannot do maintenance changes on a live system. But there has been at least 1 weekend since this problem arose (maybe 2) so they should have been able to fix it.

I got an email from RCI last week "thanking" me for modifying an ongoing search. The only thing I had done was go in and look at it (didn't even "take a peek") fromt he first screen, to see if my dates matched up with a deposit someone had said they'd just made (yep dates matched, nope I didn't get the match). But after this look online I got the modify email a few hours later. Had to go back in and re-look... no changes I could see. Also, an identical ongoing search I have using a different resort did NOT generate this email response from RCI. I do suspect that the 2nd ongoing search week may not have enough power to pull a match anyway... which may be why they didn't have to modify it for me!

I didn't call RCI about the whole thing cause I was scared of what a VG would screw up. Now that it's highly unlikely I got/will get the ongoing search match I may call. Or not... do I really want to waste my time listening to some made up reason of why I got the email, including them insisting I did do something (it is NEVER RCI's fault)??

Despite the axiom to not credit malice when incompetence will do, the timing of them "modifying" my ongoing search just when a deposit was made that actually would have matched my search is well, very coincidental to my mind!

just because it can be reproduced doesn't mean it's an easy fix. it is best for them to wait and put in a REAL FIX.

I have a bigger problem with their continuing to allow customers to release online after they knew about the problem.

You are correct - it may not be easy to fix but it should be easy to diagnose. I was told they did not know how/why it was happening - ridiculous! Regardless, it is unconscionable that they let people release holds and do not at least warn that this will cancel the search and advise to call RCI instead. That would be very easy to accomplish. This is particularly important since, once the search has been canceled, it probably cannot be be reinstated with the original start date.

As I have reported in another thread, I have had Ongoing Search problems, too, the latest being that I can't even start the one I want because a resort I have refused twice now is available.

It has been cancelled twice also.
