Of course there are no guarantees there either but a nice Old Town Alexandria at the right time of year would at least stand a chance as opposed to your current plan of using RCI.
We spent time at Old Town Alexandria last summer. My kids are so busy during the school year with sports that summer is about the only time we have to travel. So, we are taking two vacations a year. I don't want to repeat the same vacation. My son had been wanting to go to New York, so we decided that we will go next year. If I can't get a resort in NYC through RCI, I'll look into other companies to see if I can trade.
    Thanks!

That wasn't what I was suggesting. I was suggesting you reserve a week at a high demand Wyndham resort, during a high demand time with Wyndham points (if that is posible) and deposit that with SFX for a trade to NYC.

I doubt that Orlando or Williamsburg will have enough trade power with SFX. You will stand a much better chance with my scenario than with RCI and generic Wyndham points deposits into the weeks system.

I see! So, I should book a Old Time Alexandria in order to exchange for NYC.

        Got it!

Do you think a summer week at Old Time Alexandria should do?

          Speaking of Old Time Alexandria...

I am very interested in going to Old Time Alexandria in 2012 or beyond. CySeitz, if you're ever interested in a direct exchange, contact me!

Unfortunately I don't own MC; I own Bluegreen which includes 30+ resorts primarily across the eastern part of the United States. We have South Carolina ocean front, Florida ocean front, Gulf Shores, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN, Club Pension in NOLA, Wilderness Club at Big Cedar in southern Missouri (don't knock it until you've researched it -- it is fabulous!), Charleston, etc.

I had set up an exchange with a Wyndham owner who wanted a Big Cedar cabin for next year but he changed his mind.

Hmmmm....okay that is something to consider. Is the Big Cedar in Branson? I will go and look at the Blue Green Website. Maybe we can work something out.

              FYI:

Manhattan Club now has a 1 in 4 rule. This was instituted this year and means if you are trading in to MC, you have to wait 4 more years till you can exchange for MC again.

I have never had trouble booking MC through RCI points, but I usually have to do it right at the 10-month mark.

Also, MC has pretty steep housekeeping fees - $15/day for the smaller studio/1 bathroom unit; $25/day for the larger 1-bdrm/2 bthrm unit. But I still think it is worth it.

Here is a thread where Mark from SFX 'suggests' which Wyndham properties would trade well in SFX

If you are able to request a week at one of these properties and deposit into your SFX account.... they have the highest trading-power within the resort group where you own your timeshare, (in our system). These are not listed in any specific order.

If you are not able to reserve at any of these resorts, please private message me, and I will be advise accordingly.

Keep in mind that NYC is a high demand location with very few timeshares - if you are going to make a request I suggest you use as wide a timeframe as possible. If you ask for just one or two weeks in July, you may get disappointed. A request is not a guarantee...

Ha...well....like I said my children are very active. I only have two out of four still home but they play sports ALL YEAR LONG. In the summer my daughter plays softball and my son plays baseball.

We have been timeshare owners for two years this month. We have taken two vacations a year. We had a long family discussion just last week and we pinpointed a week for next summer that everybody was just going to have to suck it up and go on vacation no matter what they have going on...lol We picked the second week in July.

I guess we might have to rethink our plans. I'll open up the window to the whole summer. We will probably be more successful.

And speaking of Old Town ALexandria again

I own a 3 bedroom week in Galway, Ireland (week 32) and if that is something your family may enjoy I'm sure we could work outr a direct exchange to one of the Wyndham resorts for my Ireland week.

The Galway unit is a very basic Irish cottage, but my unit does have a sea view from the living room and kitchen. It is also one of two or three that are unattached.

This thread has made me think that besides this option
"Timeshare Direct Exchanges Wanted" Timeshare Direct Exchanges Wanted - Timeshare Forums

...that we could also do a "stickie" thread on the exchange board with people listing what they have and what they would take.
More casual then an ad and contact could be thru the PM system.
I have done several direct exchanges thru the years with board members and all have been successful but I had to seek them out based on a comment by a member that they owned at a particular property.

In this case, I knew that Joycapecod owned that week 32 Galway but did not know that she was willing to swap for something I have.

Let me discuss with the powers that be...

That's the spirit! Just a thought, I see you are from LA - southern schools usually are closed earlier in the year - could you go in June? Probably a bit easier then July/August and the weather will be better.
Good luck with your exchange and let us know how u make out.

I'd certainly welcome the idea of a more "open" direct exchange marketplace.
