Direct exchange

Sorry to threadjack, but this is a very interesting tangent

I think the idea of direct exchanges has so much potential, and I have yet to find a good method of facilitating them!

I know over yonder there is a marketplace for exchanges but I don't feel it works well for a variety of reasons.

I would like to see a subforum for direct exchanges could be by region or by specific resort.

We'd need both OFFERED threads (ie, I can get a week at Hershey. What would you like to trade for it?) and WANTED threads (I really want a week at Manhattan Club. What would it take to get it?)

The main issue I can forsee would be pirating. If I make a deal to trade my Hershey for her Old Town, I don't want someone coming in weeks later and trying to seduce her away with a Manhattan Club

A certain amount of trust would be required. A contract wouldn't hurt, either, with provisions regarding cancelation.

Yep, I think June availability is A good chance of getting TMC, July and August
week is hard to get in most resort and more so in a hard to get area like NYC
From July to the second week in September TMC is normally Full, Sept. US Open week,feget about it
I like the open exchange idea, I am looking April 16 to 23 2011 in Puerto Rico 2 bedroom at the Hyatt, has TMC

Actually this year I've done 3 direct exchanges so I'm on my way.

I'll get into those hard to get resorts yet, despite II/RCI trying to keep me out.

That's the spirit! Just a thought, I see you are from LA - southern schools usually are closed earlier in the year - could you go in June? Probably a bit easier then July/August and the weather will be better.

Yes, I could go in June. We usually let out of school the third week of May.

I own a 3 bedroom week in Galway, Ireland (week 32) and if that is something your family may enjoy I'm sure we could work outr a direct exchange to one of the Wyndham resorts for my Ireland week.

The Galway unit is a very basic Irish cottage, but my unit does have a sea view from the living room and kitchen. It is also one of two or three that are unattached.

FYI:

Manhattan Club now has a 1 in 4 rule. This was instituted this year and means if you are trading in to MC, you have to wait 4 more years till you can exchange for MC again.

I have never had trouble booking MC through RCI points, but I usually have to do it right at the 10-month mark.

Also, MC has pretty steep housekeeping fees - $15/day for the smaller studio/1 bathroom unit; $25/day for the larger 1-bdrm/2 bthrm unit. But I still think it is worth it.

If SFX will accept your deposit, you can exchange through them into either the Manhattan Club or HGVC West 57th Street in New York and avoid the 1 in 4 RCI rule. We exchanged through SFX into the Manhattan Club in July, 2008 and we have a confirmed reservation for this August at the HGVC West 57th Street. We requested the West 57th Street because of a recommendation by somebody who has stayed at both. There are no restrictions with SFX on how often you can exchange into the same resort.

Make sure you try the Carnegie Deli which is just a block from the MC. They are awesome but they only accept cash.
