  • RCI exchange with DVC

So I have a ongoing search in RCI for an exchange with dates March 5-April 30. I put it in about 3 weeks ago. I don't care which DVC we get. Is it too late? Someone from another site said I may still have a chance. Have any of you gotten one after 6 months? After reading messagge boards, it seems I have the better chance at SSR or OKW. I don't even expect to get a BLT. How is OKW?

So, I'm the guy from the other site.

Welcome to TS4M! When you reach 30 posts, have become a site contributor, or submit a resort review, you'll be able to see the "Sightings Board". I keep track of DVC availability (as do a few others) so you can go back and see what's been deposited. The last time I saw a 2BR for your date window was August 3rd, when there was a 2BR at OKW for 4/10. If you entered your search before 8/3, you might be in trouble in terms of trade power.

I happen to really like OKW. We've been there three different times now, and enjoyed each stay.

I haven't ever seen BLT available. If it is being deposited, it is going to ongoing searches and not making it online.

That's very interesting. I didn't know about that. Should be helpful if I get the nerveup to use RCI. Now, to start posting!

Is there an "RCI for Dummies" anywhere?

So, I made it to 30 with a minimal of shameless post-padding. Where do I find the sightings board?

Thanks Brian I checked with my husband and we think it was the same week of 8/3. I suspect it was just after. I won't know for sure until later this evening. I guess I will have to hang out until I get to 30 posts. At least this is post #2. Only 28 more to go.

I did spend a bit of time checking out the pictures of OKW. Okay, a LOT of time. I like what I see/read. I'm sure I will be happy with where ever we stay as long as it is Disney. This past spring's trip at a non-Disney (gold crown/rci) timeshare was not pleasant. It included my mother going to emergency room after getting attacked by fleas. She still has scars. It was worse than bad. So my fingers are crossed for a DVC to take her to next year.

There was a deposit this afternoon---none of them were what you were looking for (unless one matched to your search) but you might want to log in and search for all WDW DVC resorts, any date. If you aren't seeing them (or aren't seeing any 1BRs) you are going to have to look offsite. (There were a couple 2BRs, but they were in May, and they are already gone.)

If you have a trade power problem, I'd recommend Bonnet Creek (if you can see it).

I don't see it but I do see Bonnet Creek. Is it still available or did someone snatch it up?

There are still about a dozen units there for OKW and SSR, from February through July. So, the bad news is that it looks like you have a trade power problem. The good news is that Bonnet Creek is a great alternative---closer to the parks than SSR, and depending on the unit you get, you might have a view of the Epcot and MK fireworks each night.

I'd take the 2BR at Bonnet and enjoy. You won't have the Disney perks there, but the units are in most cases a little larger and more comfortable.

You might also be able to see the two Hiltons, which look to have 2BRs in April (but not March). I haven't been to either of those yet. Most would say the resorts themselves are even a little nicer than Bonnet, but they aren't as conveniently located for a Disney-centric trip. If you're doing "Orlando" instead of "Disney", though, they'd be great choices.

                          Welcome to TS4MS!

I am a Disney fanatic. I own at OKW and SSR. Until BLT came along, I really preferred them to any other resort. Now I like OKW, then BLT, then SSR. I just do not care that much for BWV and BCV. Neither is as relaxing as OKW and SSR.

And the whole time that I was in AKV, I wanted them to turn up the lights. It is just too dark for my tired old eyes.

Saying all that, I have always been intrigued by Bonnet Creek. So much so that I have booked Ian and I into there for our Disney vacation in December. I have heard from many Disney fanatics that it is a great place to stay - so I am looking forward to it.

I heard somewhere that Disney doesn't allow deposits with new resorts for a year or more - BLT opened summer or fall of 2009, so maybe that's it. Especially if Disney has rules about depositing from your own resort or something (no idea if that's the case or not).

AKV came in before then. I think it's more likely a matter of most new owners not really wanting to trade out, combined with high internal demand in the system by owners at other resorts. So far, I think only 60% of the resort has even been declared into DVC inventory, the rest is left for CRO to try to rent out. I doubt it's any hard-and-fast policy.
