  • Trading Power, huh?

So I'm still pretty new to the timeshare thing. Reading the boards is making me scratch my head in confusion. How can you see your trading power change?

  • #2
Only indirectly, by comparing how your deposits pull vs. what other people report. For example, I have a deposit that used to see all of the Manhattan Club weeks, then (for about 14 months) couldn't see any of them, and now can see many, but not quite all.

So while I'm trying not to get worried, that is getting difficult. Other than keeping my dates wide open and being flexible on which DVC I'm will accept, is there anything else I can do to increase my trading power?

The only thing you have any control over is when you deposit it. It used to maximize if deposited 12 months or more out, but I believe I recently saw that reduce to 10 months. (Anyone else see that?)

A result of the class-action suit is what is called disclosure, RCI showing the numbers of exchanges that each deposit can suppossedly get. But, like in other matters, it is difficult to trust the numbers, given the source.

We used to do that privately, through trading power tests . . . The first one I was in was 1999, and then I administered a couple.

The amount of lead time (deposit early) and the week you select to deposit (some weeks are "stronger" than others) will have an effect. The week you choose is probably the single most important determination of trade power/value. For instance, in Branson, week 22 has been the strongest week by far when considering supply/demand (as per I.I. trade demand index or TDI).

Unit size also plays a part in power. Smaller units tend to be less desirable than larger units ie: a studio week isn't as popular as a one bedroom and a one bedroom isn't as popular as a two bedroom.

I sure would like to see that index if you can post a link.

I was referred to an II one recently and it lumped Branson in with Lake of the Ozarks, Hot Springs Village, and Oklahoma. Branson has some activities that makes demand unlike any of those.

JLB, old pal! You can see the Travel Index without logging into II. You just go to the Resort Directory and find any resort in Branson, select it, and there is a Travel Demand Index link on that page for the resort. Week 22 is the biggest week, next is 27.

              Miss you on TUG!

I called RCI and talked to him about my trading power. While he did tell me that my home resort played a part in my trading power, he did his best to reassure me that I still have the possibility of getting in the resort I want.

...which got you off the phone, so that he could talk to someone who would actually book a transaction and help fill his quota.

As I wrote in your other thread, if you weren't able to see yesterday's DVC deposit---even the studios---the chances that you'll see a 2BR in March or April of 2011 is effectively zero. Is it completely impossible? No. But, your chances of being hit by lightning are probably better.

There are still a few DVC units left from yesterday, if you want to check again. If you are not seeing them, well...there you go.

There are no April 2011 units and this is all I am seeing with a "tiger" trader.

Your chance of getting a 2 bedroom unit at any of the DVC resorts during March or April 2011 I would say is nil.

I will know if it is a true Branson index when I see it, or one guessed at by lumping it in with nearby, dissimilar areas.

I have a discussion on another forum about occupancy rates fo0r different weeks, and would like to find a resort willing to give that info.

&, yeah, I'm sure everyone misses me.

Yup, same II index I've already seen, & not accurate for Branson.

                        Really not accurate.

I noticed the DV05 is for points. I have a weeks timeshare. I realize my chances are low but I want to hold on a little longer and hope for a little Disney magic.

This was a weeks search using my weeks account. I also have points if you'd like me to see if anything is points exclusive.

BTW the week used to search was a summer Ireland week.
