RCI Guest Cert timeframe?

I just booked a second unit, same week next year (over July 4th), at our home resort. Because I just grabbed the week when I saw it, I don't know yet which relative will be joining us, and I didn't book the GC yet. I did buy the cancellation insurance on the week, though. Both units are trades of my week at the same resort.

How soon do I need to buy and designate the GC to a specific guest?

If they cancel on me, can I change the name on it, and how close to arrival date would I have to do that?

I've looked on rci.com and on here, but didn't see answers to this.

If you are going to be there, there is no need for a GC. You can change the name any time you want to up until check-in. They just want the money, they don't care how many times you update it once you pay.

Yes, you can just check into both units. No need for a GC.

Jeanne,

If you will be checked in at the resort yourself and are the owner of the RCI account that these are booked with you will not need a guest certificate. You just have to present when they check in.

And, for future reference, RCI is happy to take your money for a GC up until pretty close to the last minute. If close to checkin, I would have them fax it, though they may have gotten better about email since I last bought one, not sure.

If 3 is not enough . . . you don't need a GC.
