  • Exchange Fee Question

Do you have to pay the RCI Exchange Fee when you start an Ongoing Search? Can you do manual searches (not ongoing) without paying the Exchange Fee until you actually make a decision and exchange? This would be with a Points account. I am new to this - still waiting for my RCI membership number and information.

Most of the time you have to pay to start an ongoing search. There was a period of time when RCI has allowed a search to start without payment recently. I don't think they do that any more.

You can always search manually without paying the exchange fee.

      Thank you

I would prefer not to have to pay the exchange fee until I have found something. So being able to do manual searches without it will be the way to start. Now, just have to wait for the membership to be processed and get a number so i can start looking at what is there.

If the on-going does not get match, the fee will be returned as credit (it is not automatically refund to you). Which you can use for next on-going search or exchange

While I have done pretty well with manual searches, if I really want something I find putting in an ongoing search is the way to go.

I understand your position here. But, there are significant advantages to having an ongoing search for things you really want---especially if you plan to travel during high-demand time for your destination, and/or are traveling to a place with chronically low supply. Especially now, when most liquid account interest rates are negligible, there is very little cost to paying earlier rather than later.

Am I missing something? I thought Ongoing Searches were only available for Weeks not Points?

Only for weeks inventory. Points owners can start an ongoing search for something in the weeks pool. You have to call to start it and you can't change it online once it's started but you can do it.

                  Thank you

I am learning alot from all your responses. When I get my membership number I will enjoy doing a lot of manual searches. Since RCI told me they do new memberships once a month on the 1st of the month I am hoping for November to start having fun searching.
