The problem is that from experience the best way to know if RCI is lying is to look to see if their lips are moving. That is most particularly true on changes in trading power. RCI in recent times has never 'fessed up when they did it. Is there any reason they will behave any more honestly this time?

I quoted the following from the FAQ's
What will this change do to the exchange vacations I’m able to see?
You will still have at least the same number of vacation options as you do today. In fact, depending on how you choose to search and use your weeks you may have access to more options than ever before!1
Based on this, everyone should be happy about the new program. If you have a poor trader, now you have the option to trade up. If you have a strong trader, you will get the same exchange + something back.

If someone wants to defend the RCI of today as more trustworthy and customer-friendly than the RCI of, say, 1989, that is their perogative.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

Two things I have suggested for a long time have finally come to pass:
1. Being able to combine deposits (although we have yet to pass judgement on that), &
2. Being able to use existing credit for online transactions.
Why do you suppose these fairly simple things took so long (more than 10 years), and why now?
PS: I know I grate on people, like "not him again!", so that they grudgingly make changes, but once made, I feel pretty good about them, as I can see the ongoing benefit of them . . . talking about things in real life, too.
I try to do good things because they are that, good things, and because doing the good thing is far more important than pettiness, but sometimes others with a dog in the fight, too close to be objective, take offense to it.
Then, years later, the good thing is still there.
Is it really all that important that I grate on people, if changes for the good get made because of it.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

Oh yeah, I hold out the possibility that I am not always right, that what I see as good may not be the best choice of good.
Some seem obvious, but maybe that is just my perspective.
Like renting weeks to the public, not letting timeshare owners have deposits that other owners have made, intending for other owners to get them. Or, making weeks available for $199 in the same timeframe, area and resorts that I/we have weeks for rent in/at, when our maintenance fee is $600.
Maybe I just can't see how stuff like that is good.
I am reasonable and have no problems with reasonable people. I do tend to have problems with people who are not reasonable, things that do not make any sense at all, things that are unfair, and things that simply are not good.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

It took me awhile to find it, cuz there's stuff to open that was not there before, to find the right click to see stuff that takes more than one deposit, but the bottom line is that for us, for what we still own timeshares for and still belong to RCI for, FL Southern Gulf Coast for January, it did us no favors.
Here's the bottom line for us:
First, there is only one (as opposed to none) resort available for January, 2012, so it did not make available much more choice.
Second, that resort is one of the lesser ones, and just a studio at that.
Third, it is in an area and month that up until stuff was taken away from us during the last major enhancement, 5/30/09, we have been going to for nearly 20 years, with one deposit.
Fourth, it will take two deposits, and an extra $99 fee, on top of the exchange fee.
Here is the note I made in my log following this:
Now I see the catch, I had to open something to find it. To get something in Southern Gulf Coast for January, something we use to get with one deposit, it now takes two, and it costs an extra $99 to combine deposits:
Kalhua Beach Club Studio Check-In Date 21-Jan-2012 Exchange Trading Power 29
(Our best deposit is 21, and it is an old deposit. Our best in the future appears to be 19)
As for stuff we do not want, stuff not far out, showing trading power adjustment over time, showing trading power prior to deposits, and stuff like that, it looks better, more fair.
Quite difficult to find all that, though.
More thoughts to come as it reveals more of itself.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

In synopsis, it appears we can get 2 weeks in 2 bedroom Gold Crowns on the beach in SW FL in the next couple of months with one deposit . . .
but we cannot get a studio at a lesser resort when we want to go, January 2012.
It would seem to run against their Early Deposit Early Exchange mandates of the last 20 years.
What with the other aspects of vacation planning . . . air and rental car . . . it makes it tough.RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

I got Calculate Trading Power to work . . . and all I can muster is a laugh.
ha
All I can say is maybe someday we will want to combine four 2-bedroom Gold Crown deposits to get one studio at a crappy resort. I'm serious as a heart attack about that, because that's exactly what it's saying!!!!!
It would be nice if you did not have to calculate it . . . if it was just there next to each deposit. Is that too much to ask?
&, there is no indication as to what max trading power is, the best anyone has, so full disclosure it is not.
I am going to assume that since full disclosure is not being made available to members/users, nothing resembling it is being made available in the sales process, to prospective owners. Anyone know?
Anyone lurking, who knows, care to comment?
Since we are still having to ask each other in order to compare trading power . . . what is the most anyone has?RCI Member Since 24-Aug-1989/150-plus Exchanges***THE TIMESHARE GRIM REAPER~~~Exchanging/Searching/SW Florida/MO/AR/IA/Consumer Advocacy/Estate Planning/Sports/Boating/Fishing/Golf/Lake-living/Retirement****Sometimes ya just gotta be a dick

Here's the math on that last post . . . to get one exchange:
4 maintenance fees @ $600: $2400
One Exchange Fee: $179
RCI membership fee: $80
At least one fee to combine weeks: $99
$2758
That's to trade four 2-bedroom Gold Crowns for one studio at a crappy resort.
Really.
Why would anyone do that when you can get something better on craigslist for a fraction of that?
