I searched for the weeks that they only give us 8 for, and for 2011 and 2012 those weeks are not available through RCI.

I checked our three much-aligned Slimey Slough weeks, for 2011 and 2012, and of the six of them, only one, for 2012, is available.

So, it is not the supply side that is the problem.

But, then, for as long as I have checked, going waaaaaaaay back, someone has always taken them.

That is like South Africa, where there is not that much online and RCI's own availibility charts published in the European version of its directory show that demand exceeds supply yearround, yet RCI severely whacked its trading power, at least for non-South African owners of SA weeks. They even use a different formula for determining trading power than they do for anywhere else in the world, designed to undervalue those weeks.

The UK, a high demand, low supply area, where some resorts are hard to find online any time of the year, has also gotten whacked in trading power, as have other places in Europe. Even Allen House, which sits at the top of the supply/demand curve has lesser numbers than an honest system would give it. Apparently that is the fate if you are a sold out resort without a developer to politick RCI for higher numbers.

What does that mean? I had an ongoing search that matched on Tuesday. Why do you think it doesn't work anymore?

Because the TPU of the deposit is 19 and a crappy studio (only thing that has been available so far), lesser than we have gotten in 20 years, takes 29.

There is a little shortcut . . . Save this Search.

I saved Florida, all available exchanges with all available deposits.

Now when I click to Search, and the default 1-for-1 page loads, I click My Favorite Search over on the right, and it goes to that.

It took me a few days, but I have noticed that this is not working. I saved the enhanced search, all available exchanges, but when I select that, it shows the unenhanced version, only what I can get with a single deposit.

It saves it OK until I log out. When I log back in it shows the same search unenhanced.

45-Day Window

No more based on what I'm seeing.

Desireable stuff the first week of January appears to cost full value (two deposits for us).

It looks like the 45 day booking has been reduced to 30 day booking for the weeks through points 6500-7500 discount.

It looks like the 45 day booking has been reduced to 30 day booking for the weeks through points 6500-7500 discount.

In reality, it had already been reduced to a 14-day, m/l, in Weeks. It has been for years. We have used the 14-day window to upgrade to better resorts. So, we have done what is now SOP, giving two full exchange fees (but just one deposit) before. Once we upgraded twice (giving three exchange fees).

The difference is that we have always gotten our original exchange well in advance, around 18 months. If we can't do that til 14 days out that's a helluva deal trying to get time off and plane and rental car for two couples.

For us it has become a Last Minute getaway service if we want to go where and when we want to, where we have for years.

Interesting, right now there are 439 exchanges to Florida in the next month and there are also 434 Last Calls in Florida in the next month, close enough for me so that it is the same stuff.

So, at the point when exchanges become really cheap TPU-wise, they are also available with no deposit required, and just a few dollars more.

In other words, when stuff becomes available to us (because of assigned TPU) with one of our deposits, we would be better off to take them as a Last Call, not giving a deposit.

So, our deposits are meaningless up until 30 days out, at which time we no longer need them.

Ya gotta love it.

Yeah, and that is going to feed a lot of timesharers bailing out. Our HOA's are going to get hammered, thanks to RCI's short-sighted idiocy, and then we are going to get hammered with higher m/f's. Thanks a lot, RCI!!!

They did not fix this while down today. I have an enhanced search saved and it keeps giving me a regular search.

I need to retract this. Just about all of Florida, except for what we want . . . the Gulf . . . is available through Last Call. Last minute Gulf stuff is not.

Something that could have been done better:

When you do an enhanced search, it shows what you can get with your deposits, and what you would have to combine deposits to get.

There is a link to click to combine deposits, but no way to put something on Hold while you do that.

A smarter way to do it would be for the ones where you need to combine deposits, allow you to select the exchange you want and then ask you what deposits you want to combine. You select that and it takes your exchange and combining fees.

If you don't follow through, it would release the exchange.
