  • RCI: Pay First, See What You Buy Later

I happened to have just used my last weeks banked with rci for exchange just before the enhancements so I have nothing in the bank.

In searches, I'm blocked from seeing any available exchange inventory until and unless committing to deposit. All they show me is rental and last call inventory.

So I can't see the trading power values I'll have to pay for an exchange with the new system.

One of the key benefits to the real Points System is the ability to peruse available inventory >before< committing to deposit. Points Lite falls way short on this one.

This RCI "points lite" policy is like going to a store and having to pay first for merchandise they will not allow me to see and may not even have in stock! Would you shop at such a store? I didn't think so. Would you cash your check at a bank that won't tell you how much money they're going to hand you? I thought not.

This sort of smoke and mirrors voodoo practiced by RCI is no doubt a major factor in RCI member dissatisfaction.

I've emailed rci my disatisfaction with this 'pay first' policy. I urge you
to do so as well. Rallying around a few key points like this one might get something changed.

    Thanks

Welcome to RCI reality and RCI's version of disclosure.

If you can't see squat as an owner/member, that pretty much answers my question about what sales prospects will be shown.

From what I am seeing, you made a wise choice in exchanging before the change.

Have you checked out the independent exchange companies yet? I know at least 4 of them who will show you what's there before you deposit.

Yep. Lucky me. What about future exchanges?

Any recommendations? Experiences? It just so happens that I'm in the market for another exchange network.

Where you own will depend on who will take your week.
                    Where do you own?

I've used DAElive. Mostly for getting cheap rentals to Orlando. $79 a week.
Also used VRIety because I owned a VRI resort. Again for cheap rentals.
SFX trades high end stuff. I have an account with them but have never done anything with it.
There are others. TPI (Trading Places Int'l).
Platinum Interchange. No experience there either.

I'm favoring more the mini-systems myself as I have much better luck getting the hard to get stuff.

I agree ...so much for disclosure. They tell you how much money you have but not how much anything costs. I have nothing banked with RCI and think I will keep it that way.

Years ago we went to a timeshare presentation and the salesman wanted us to agree to buy before he would tell us how much the week cost. They have to be kidding... didn't happen then and wont happen now either.

Ive been happy with interval and TPI. I may try out platinum and htse as well

SFX will not take that one but these should:

Timeshares & Time Share Exchange Service-DAELive.com

                            HTSE

                            www.platinuminterchange.com.

                            Trading Places International - Home

I would also talk to your resort about dual affiliation with II.

Once I saw the spectre of Points Lite on the horizon, I made sure to grab exchanges so that I would not have anything left in RCI once the monster rose from its slab. I am glad I did, as my last even exchange would have left me 11 points lite short today

Thanks for the links. Have any experience or recommendations? Yes, my resort, Seascape, is dual affiliated - rci and ii. But last time I checked - a few years ago when contemplating a switch - ii is also a cendent company.
