  • RCI's new system and Wyndham

I had called Wyndham about a month ago to have my remaining '10 points deposited in RCI and the VC told me "oh, don't do it now, wait until after 11/15 and the deposit procedure is all changing to match with RCI's new system. She said that under the new system all deposits would be visible/searchable and that you could make a deposit for as many points as you wanted to so that you would not have to do a combine after deposit. She also said I would be getting info either email or snail mail about the new system prior to 11/15."
I said ok and waited. We were away for a week and a half right after the 15th so decided to wait until we came back to get this done.
Called Wyndham yesterday after checking the web site and finding no changes to the deposit system. The VC I talked to said that the system was not in place yet but that I could still deposit under the old system but only invisible/nonsearchable deposits as they had no more visible deposits for the rest of the year.
I asked when the system would be in place and was told that it might be in place before end of December but he was doubtful of that. I told the VC that this was not acceptable and that I wanted to talk to a supervisor and they said ok and put me on hold for a long time. When the next person came on it was not a supervisor but someone from "owner relations" who was much nicer than the VC I had been talking to but still had the same message. I said that this was really a terrible way to treat their customers. That RCI had put up this new system and although it was less than perfect we as customers should at least be able to put our deposits in it and start to use it instead of just being able to get nonsearchable deposits that would be handled in some mysterious totally different way where you could not even do any comparisons. Also nonsearchable deposits are not eligible for combination either and you have no idea what they will draw unless you call in and ask them to search for something. The CR person just said she was sorry but that's the way it was for now and asked me to be patient and that she thought that the system would be in place before the end of December but that she could not guarantee that and that if it was not the only option I would have then would be to do the deposits as generic/nonsearchable but that would be better than loosing the points.I am usually quite happy with my Wyndham holdings but this has made me extremely frustrated with them. I would think that the least they could do is arrange for visible/searchable deposits for people and then they would at least be assigned the magic numbers and be combinable and useful in the new system..

Aby thoughts from other Wyndham owners. I have searched the Wyndham owners board and other places but no one seems to be talking. Someone besides me must be trying to do some year end deposits....

      Ken,

Well, we have all been disappointed so many times before.

Personally for me, for Wyndham/Fairfield the one that hurt was 2003 when they said pooled points were no longer eligible for RCI deposits.

The other one was we could no longer reserve a specific WYN week and deposit that, remember that one.

Since that 2002-2003 period we have continually been promised to have visible deposits in RCI.

The membership here was seeded with long time TUG members who had felt slighted in some way, experienced users who didn't want to put up with some of the BS about. So I'm not surprised with no comments.

As for the current situation, best to wait it out somewhat, for expiring points we have to deposit by the end of the use year. May as well wait until toward that time and do what is available to do.

Well, we have all been disappointed so many times before.
Exactly. I've just about given up hope that anything will ever change. Everyone was *so sure* that we'd see a change *with* 11/15, but that came and went. Now, I'm firmly in the believe it when I see it camp. I don't believe the end-of-year story for a second, but am willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Over the past year and a half or so, I've been actively managing my account to avoid having to make RCI deposits; pooling each year, and calling rather than booking online so that I can use pool credits for any reservations before regular use-year points. This is building up a small surplus that I will eventually have to use for something, but that's fairly far into the future. I do still sometimes use them in RCI, but only in very specific circumstances. So, I expect to pool my remaining 2011 points in the next few weeks, status quo.

If I had 2010 points, I would wait until the last possible moment to do anything with them, just as Mark suggests.

I would wait until last moment also.

But just in case Wyndham may do some system update, I will not wait till last day. So a one week shutdown will not cost me my RCI deposit if I do need use it. (I have until June 2011 to make that decision)

If at that time, there is no change, any assumption can be true if there really is a system come up later.

But for the one already deposit, I will assume they will follow whatever rules they have now. Wyndham will not do anything more for it. They will let it used or die.

So that means, if there is no integration update, I will assume that any deposit made will not be combinable. They will now have either a fix trading power or still be floating, but not great power. And may or may not get Wyndham group preference. I will tend to believe there will be only one system outside of integration point, so the exeiting one will no longer expect preference.

That means, I will assume blue stdio is about 11 to 14 trading power. White is about 12 to 15 trading power, Red stdio is about 14 to 16 trading power. Red 1 BD is up to 17 trading power. But if it is any indication, the one that deposit after the change will usually show a little bit higher value than the one before the change, I will assume Wyndham's invisible deposit may have the same effect.

I will still look at the area I want to travel and see how many week I want from those deposit, and deposit them accordingly. If I have special area, I would rather assume the trading power is at mid to lower range instead of higher range. But if I don't have anything in mind, I will take the higher range trading power.

          Good luck.
