  • RCI Points can't see everything in Weeks in the new world

I ran across something last night as I was searching. I noticed a new prime summer SoCal 2BR deposit searching in weeks. The TPU required was 39 TPUs. Curious to see how much it would cost in Points, I flipped over to my points account to look. I could see all the inventory for that resort except for that new deposit.

So, there must be some time filter now which keeps brand new weeks inventory in Weeks for a period of time. I know we've had guides tell us that the inventories are separate but we also know that hasn't been the case. How long this new protection time is, we don't know. I know someone on this board will be happy to hear this.

That is good to hear. Points should not have access to Weeks unless Weeks also has access to Points. This would be one positive of the new Points Lite regime.

I had alway found that inventories were not the same. I alway searched with both points and weeks and many times found check in dates with weeks that were not offered in points.

I've heard it said that if it's there and you know it and you can get someone on the phone at RCI that can find it, too, they can get it for you with your points.

I did not read every last word of the settlement agreement, but vaguely remember there being an agreement that Weeks deposits would be available only to Weeks subscribers for a short period of time, like 30 days, after which RCI is free to do with them whatever they choose.

I thought that was the compromise hammered out.

Maybe this is why: . . . while the proposed settlement agreement itself is 38 pages long, with all the attachments the entire file consists of 291 pages.

I cannot find the settlement, just references to it and ways to opt in or out.

If you would like to read the 38-page proposed settlement agreement negotiated between RCI and the attorneys for the Plaintiffs, you may download the proposed agreement from the website referenced on the Notice.
You also can retrieve it from a link on the RCI website home page.

Those are no longer available . . . as if it never happened.

              Weeks and Points

If a resort is in both weeks and points you can't see a week at that resort using a points search.
I believe that a guide can do the transaxction for you, however.
At least that was the story a year or two ago.

But here's an interesting . . , and timely, snippet:

The settlement has three core components. (1) First, the settlement provides several changes to the way RCI runs the Weeks Exchange Program. For example, if the Court approves the settlement, RCI will give priority to Weeks members’ exchange requests before renting inventory from the Spacebank. (2) Second, the settlement requires RCI to make several disclosures regarding its operation of the Weeks Exchange Program. For example, if the settlement is finally approved, RCI will make a tool available on its website that allows members to estimate trading power of a proposed deposit and to see the available inventory for which the member is eligible to exchange at that moment

                Hmmmmm!?

I have been able to do this (only tried once) when I had a week on hold in weeks and had points that needed to be used. I called points and the rep was able to confirm it from weeks using points.

Now, looking at the TPU value of the unit for the week I confirmed it was a bargain in points. The 1 bedroom unit was 36 TPU, but I got it with 28,500 points. I seriously doubt there will be scores like this in the future.

Current planned vacations from weeks taken from points (all scheduled prior to "points Lite")

                    Week 17 Caribe - Sanibel TPU43 = 22k points
                    Week 29 R.Massena - Nice TPU33 = 39k points
                    Week 30 Sea Time - Ocean City MD TPU41 = 24k points

So not only was it cheaper to use Points to book these weeks resorts in the first place. It is two or three times cheaper to use Points now.

Off to see if this holds water going forward.

If you got one week with the equivalent of one deposit, points and TPUs and what-not are just gobbly-gook.

Yep, did it a couple days ago without any hassle or problem, the rep was very helpful. I suspect the update on Points inventory is on a different schedule than weeks, but can't really say that for sure since it isn't something I've been studying.

There are glitches in RCI Points that you can nab for Last Call points prices, even though they aren't even close to being <30 days. Of course they are infrequent but, I just nabbed a nice 2BR L/O for 9.6K points during the system glitch a couple days ago; everything above and below it was running 28K to 77K. It stuck out like a sore thumb!

You need to nab them quick when you see them because they don't last long! That's a lesson learned for me.
