  • An OF's Advice

If you have not purchased a timeshare yet, and somehow you have found your way here looking for guidance, and your head is now spinning, and you respect an OF's perspective, the worst advice being given right now is to buy . . . anything, any where.

If you already own, the second worst advice is to sell.

    Let the dust settle.

    This is so not true.

Just don't buy any old week in mugwump swamp.
Do your homework and buy what makes sense for you.

Right now points make sense (for me and many others).
That's why RCI is trying their hand at it again.

For the record, I love RCI points and own at V V Parkway.
That dreaded, in cahootz with RCI resort, that gives me lots of vacation options that a weeks owner will never see.
What a crime. What a crisis.

People want options other than just a week a year.

I think that's probably correct. Realistically, for most people, a timeshare probably isn't a very good idea from strictly a dollars and cents perspective. The chances that you can buy a "good" timeshare that *does* make sense, just by random happenstance, are essentially zero. To figure out the difference between the good ones and the not-so-good-ones takes a pretty serious commitment to learning how the whole thing works---not just today, but how market forces are likely to evolve the system going forward. Most people are probably better off using that extra time working overtime, or consulting, or doing whatever else one does to earn money. They are likely to earn more extra money for vacation than they would save by owning a "smart" timeshare.

If you will post a few more times, you will, but here's a one time exception

The following was posted as an "Ex Op", something that is considered to be an exceptional Exchange Opportunity.

Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and let folks think you are an idiot, rather than to speak up, and remove all doubt.

To repeat my OP, caveat emptor. There is some bad advice being offerred here the past week.

Before doing anything, whether getting involved with timesharing for the first time, or "re-doing" your involvement, let the dust settle.
