Since I can't vote more than once I am posting here.

One deposit (2011 yr) - recd more TPUs than would be needed to trade back in for that exact week in 2011.

One deposit (2012 yr ) - recd fewer TPUs than would be needed to trade back in for that exact week 2012.

One older deposit (dep 9/08, 2010 yr) is significantly undervalued for the comparable week in 2011; for two older deposits, (dep 06 and 07 , for yrs 07 and 08) - one is one tpu over what is needed to get back, one is 1 tpu under what is needed to get back in.

Gosh, & we used to be so close.

Back to the OP, the first exchange I saw for Jan, 2012, in SFL Gulf was a studio at Estero Island Beach Club for 29.

        It gets 24 to deposit.

Right now the lowest, or close, rated resort in SW FL, MR&C, has 1-beds for 1/14 & 1/28/2012, for 34. 23 to deposit.

Sea Oats is available 1/14 and 1/28/2012 for 25. 19 to deposit.

I have been telling someone for a long time that our trades into Sea Oats have been comparable. Actually, RCI agrees on the deposit side . . . exactly the same . . . but they have jacked up what it takes to trade in.

Exactly that type of stuff we need to be watching out for.

        Thanks

I just deposited my 2 bedroom lockout at Grandview in Las Vegas yesterday. It's deposited as 2 x 1 bedroom units.
Each unit has given me 19 points. To book a unit for the same week dates I deposited will cost 13 points for 2011 and 15 points for 2012.

Based on what I see, I can get other weeks, on alternative dates, at the Grandview for less points again. So when I decide to go there, which is every other year, it might be more beneficial to deposit my weeks with RCI and use the TPU's to get into the Grandview, using less points, and have the option of using/combining points to get better trades for other vacations.
Obviously that means I will have to pay an exchange fee to get into my own resort but if that means I can combine and get a week which typically is out of my reach, such as the Manhatton Club (Example), it may be worth it.

I for one find the new RCI site quite enjoyable but being fairly new to Timeshares (5 years) I don't know anything about the "old" RCI trading that people feel they have lost out on, due to less than stellar trading power valuations.

I got less for my two weeks than it would cost to trade back. i tried to point this out to my resort. The result, they had RCI call me saying we heard you want a week in July in your resort N o I never said that. RCI's answer, put in a search and when it gets closer to the week you want, you will be able to get it, if someone else hasn't taken it. My resort doesnt seem to get my point that why would I want to own there if i can't even book a week that I am depositing.

Did you talk to a resort manager? Some of them from my experience don't have a clue about the nuances of exchanging, and if your manager was one of those, the reaction is not surprising. Some managers do get it, and if you are lucky your resort will have one of those. The better place to address this is with your HOA board, but most HOA boards are dominated by own to use members who usually have limited knowledge of exchanging and sometimes limited concern. The best bet is to identify an HOA board member who is an exchanger and walk them through the problem so that they understand it. Once an HOA board member understands the problem and gets on board, the chance of getting the resort to take action increases tremendously,

I took a look at some really tough to get trades in the Caribbean, too, like St. John, Bermuda in high season, and St. Lucia and some of those numbers are insanely low, too, compared to way off the beach resorts in Myrtle Beach and OBX and overbuilt Orlando.

If SFX is looking to eat RCI's lunch is the Caribbean, RCI has surely given them the ammunition. If I were in charge of business development, I would put together some number analysis on those resorts and get someone on a plane, pronto!

                    Can't do it

It takes 25 TPUs or whatever you want to call them to exchange into my specific week and unit size.

However, the max TPUs I can get for a deposit is 21. So I can't trade back into my own week.
