  • The Role of RCI

Some, even RCI at times, say, "You shoulda bought where you plan on vacationing."

All you have to do to see the truth of how timeshares are sold is to look at a new resort being marketed.

What role is RCI? Is it a small, insignificant portion of the purchase, just another little benefit for owners? Or, is it what is being marketed most, the primary reason for buying.

Take a look at the homepage of a new resort and see:

    Branson?s Nantucket

Warning: Very tacky text lacking proofreading.

Unlike normal points, they don't rust when they get wet.

        You Know

The role of RCI is to make as much money as possible. Members are subject to the marketing strategies implemented to achieve this.

And they seem to have a set of principals rivalling Enron or the old Savings and Loans to do that.

Most companies look at making money as both a short and long term prospect. When you kill the golden goose, you might indeed goose short term profits, but your long term prospects turn sour. What RCI is doing to timesharing generally is foolish from a standpoint of their making money over the long term. Some of their rivals, if they are smart will eat RCI's lunch with its stupidity. Crystall deHahn was MUCH better at comprehending the long term impacts of RCI's poliicies than the out-to-lunch Cendant / Wyndham bunch.

              Yes, but...

Doesn't loomk as if they are making much progress so far. Synergy is difficult to stop.
