  • Wondering why?

I have suggested that folks see if they can still get the exchanges they have in the past with one deposit.

Just wondering why I'm the only who has, or has been willing to share the results, which is:

Of the last 16, and the 3 confirmed, those still in our Account History, all of them now take two deposits.

Of our first 46, mostly off-season exchanges to lesser resorts obtained with much worse deposits no longer owned, we can only get 27 of them with our best single deposits.

I totally can relate to that. Out of the last 20 or so exchanges we have done (plus 2 weeks booked for this February and one for next July), maybe one is available to us using a single deposit.

I am asking sincerely. Have folks not done this because it is too much work (maybe 30 minutes), because they don't care, or because they don't want to see the results (like looking at a body in the morgue)?

I have checked back on my 100 plus exchanges. We still own most of the same weeks used for these trades, and only a very few could we confirm with one deposit now (surprisingly, a Yosemite Bass Lake). Not pleased!

So, Dori/Sherry, do y'all see the humor of the email from RCI:

          • Combine your deposits to book an exchange you didn’t have access to before*

I am close to dumping 80% of my timeshares. I would keep what trades with II and dunp the rest.

Keeping in mind you still have other exchange companies to use like II.SFX,TPI,Platinum,DAE,HTSE.....

Some Of The Resort Are Almost Twice The Trading Power As Before.

I looked at my past exchanges with RCI. Some of the past exchanges that I made in the past I could not get now for 2 reasons.

                1) Many of the Resorts I exchanged into the past now have more rental weeks than exchange weeks available.

                2) The trading credits (or Power) of some of my resorts are less than the ones that I exchanged into by 15 to 20 credits for the same time period.

I would say that at least 5 out of 6 resorts are not available to me for the same time period as before.

I like the idea that I can combined deposits since I own more timeshare weeks that I can use at this time.

But I think RCI should not have redone the trading power of the resorts so that it is necessary now to combine weeks in order to make exchanges that were available in the past as one week for one week exchanges.

RCI now makes money on the 'combination' charge and the Exchange fee.

Anything I've gotten post-5/30/09 seems to still be gettable. With my fixed weeks, a few things prior to 5/30/09 cannot, but only a few. With my Wyndham points, the picture is not as pretty; the internal preference took a whacking on 5/30/09, and that's what I mostly used it for. 11/15/10 did little to no new damage, as near as I can tell. The main change in what-gets-what seems to have happened on 5/30/09.

It's also worth noting that, for some things, I can't check for sure because there are no equivalent deposits currently in the spacebank, and the deposit calculator is at best a rough guide for what something would require in an exchange.

Most of the good exchanges I have gotten over the years were obtained through ongoing searches. Those weeks are not readily available in the existing pool so I have no idea what it would take to get them. You can't go by the deposit calculator; I guess the travel planner would be the best guide. Based on that, I can definitely get one for one, sometimes 2 for one.

The travel planner seems to over-average, as near as I can tell.

Because of the nature of the beast, very few should be able to get everything they have in the past with one deposit.

As to RCI's claim, if it was true, that by combining deposits we could now get uptrades we previously could not, well, that would be fine.

But that is not the case. It now takes two to get what we used to get with one, the opposite of what they are hyping.

Still curious, is there anyone with, say, at least 20 trades, that can still get every one of them with the same deposits?

I checked 30 trades. Only one of them is still possible to get.
