RCI Weeks Member Confused

So I've been waiting 2 years for my RCI vacation search to be found, and yesterday I got my first hit. The email said "Your Vacation Is Confirmed", and the fine print noted that I was strictly prohibited from trading or selling my vacation.

Sorry for the newbie questions, but to be honest this is the first time my vacation was ever found. Too bad I'm already booked to go to this destination the week before it found for me.

2 questions:

1) Am I locked into this "confirmed" week now?
2) Why can't I trade or sublet this week? I thought that was the whole point?

Again, sorry for the newbie questions but I've never used my timeshare before.

1) You can cancel your exchanged week - generally there is no penalty if canceled within 24 hours of confirmation. It sounds like you aren't using the website but rather snail mail, so call asap and see if you can cancel without a penalty. If past the 24 hour window there will be some fee, assuming you didn't buy "Vacation Protection."

2) RCI prohibits the renting or trading of any weeks obtained in exchange (or reserved with RCI points). You have the right to rent your own week, but not a week obtained in trade. RCI plays hardball on this - they will suspend your account and cancel the exchange if they find it listed for rent or otherwise hear you are violating the rules.

To be clear, RCI can and does rent out weeks that are deposited in the Spacebank.

Once deposited, those weeks are RCI's to do with as they please. It pleases them to forbid the recipients to rent or "sublet" them to others, except via a Guest Certificate. Nothing more than the exchange fee and guest certificate fee can be given for the week.

The simple explanation as to why this is the policy is that that is the way RCI wants it.

FWIW, 20 years ago I/we thought the same as you, and even said it during our tours. We said stuff like, "Wow, you mean for our deposit in the Spacebank and $49, we can get a week anywhere is the world and advertise it in the paper?"

We, too, were surprised when we learned that we could not (well after the fact).

Sometimes what is not said is as misleading as what is said. But, here 20 years later, we can see that some deceptions are consistent.

Since I deposit my week from Wyndham each year... how do I know which week is "my week" ?

Sounds like a question for the Wyndham forum. Of course, after you deposit it, it is not your week any more. It is your deposit.

For myself, a non-Wyndham Weeks member, I can view the Weeks we have deposited, and see what each can get (and can't get), if that's what you mean.

Wyndham deposits are treated differently in RCI than other deposits. I suggest reviewing the Wyndham/Fairfield forum for further explanation and post your question there if you don't find the answer:
