  • How best to sell RCI Week at Orange Lakes

Hi, I hope someone can help to point me in the right direction of where to start! We own one week at Orange Lakes resort and have not used it for around 3 years now. We have banked the weeks and honestly can't see us going again.

Does anyone have any thoughts please?

    Thank you for your help

    Read the Internet.

Selling any timeshare week anywhere is problematic. With your limited OP, I have no idea the level of your awareness. Some timeshare owners believe what they are told by the sellers, that it real estate and has resale value. Some know the truth.

Orlando is one of the most problematic, if not the most. Very few Orlando weeks are in strong enough demand relative to supply, for there to be something of a market. Maybe peak summer and 51 & 52.

Even then, there is no place that has more sale and resale competition.

A long shot, but have you asked OL if they will take it back, or if they offer any resale help whatsoever . . . newsletter, bulletin board, resale program or agent . . . (or do they still not care about their owners, except for when it comes to getting money from them)?

If I am the bearer of bad news, sorry, but the truth is normally the best thing to know.

FWIW, OL is not something I am guessing at. It was our first tour back when it consisted of just the West Village Studios and Golf Villas. We've been on five tours and have stayed there many times. I have probably posted 1000 times about OLCC, mostly in my former life.

      Hi JLB

Thank you for your honest reply.

Yes, I think your right we believed that we would be able to 'give back' our week and walk away but I don't think it will be that easy.

When we bought our week, around 7 years ago, the plan was to bank every other year and then use that for a 2 week holiday every other year as we did't want to be tied to going every year. Our week is in May so maybe not a popular time as you mentioned. We have only used our week once and swopped once and as I mentioned I don't think we will go back. Its a great resort but I think we were easily led when we bought and were very naive but whats done is done.

I will read more on different forums and will try Orange Lakes but I guess we already know the answer.

Thanks again fro taking the time to reply.

You might want to stick around here and learn how to exchange so you can take vacations that you might enjoy to places you might want to visit instead of just going to Orlando. Not that there is anything wrong with Orlando.

We'd be happy to teach you how to go someplace else. I own 3 timeshares in Orlando and I trade for places other than Orlando all the time.

            Hi Chriskre,

Thank you for your reply too. I have looked at exchanging but each time I have tried there is no weeks available and it is just another headache! We did try Tenerife about 2 years ago and that was a disaster. It was supposed to be the same grade but it was clearly not and after paying the exchange fee etc we wish we hadn't bothered. We found Dubai a few years ago and to be honest we don't want to go anywhere else now!

            Thanks again

When it comes to exchanging, since you seem to be new to that, you will find ample availability in the overbuilt areas . . . such that you can go to Orlando, for instance, almost any time you want, and probably get a bigger unit (I won't say better resort ), but you will have a very hard time getting something in an area where the supply and demand factor is not so lopsided or any areas where owners value their weeks more for personal use.

Stated another way, where owners have not been sold the idea of buying to exchange as heavily as they are in places like Orlando, Williamsburg, Branson, etc.
