  • Now what?

Hello all, we are fairly new to this forum but have been pleasantly surprised at how helpful everyone seems. I am hoping someone can sort of point us in the right direction. So my wife and I purchased a t/s in Weston, Fl, we are not crazy about that particular locale, and really just wanted the associated RCI points. We paid yesterday and now I know it is a waiting game, but my question is once we get the deed and the points is there anything we need to do to ensure that they are deposited as points into RCI? (previous owner paid to have it in points) Does this happen by default? I hope I am clear, if not please let me know. I just want to ensure a smooth transition and that we do not end without the points. Thank you in advance for any help.

    What resort?

Did you buy it retail or resale?

The resorts in Weston are very familar to any RCI member interested in Florida.

As to your specific questions, or any crapshoot guess about RCI, what it is now or might be in the future, I'll defer to more optimistic folks.

BTW, we have been RCI members for more 20 years.

Good luck with your new venture.

Did the seller discuss transferring the current points account into your name? Here is a link to the transfer agreement. If the sale is ongoing, see if they intend to submit this form.

This purchase was made on Ebay. It does state that I would receive 86,500 pts annually via RCI. The auction wrapped up yesterday, so we are waiting to receive paperwork. More than anything I am just wondering if I need to tell someone (RCI or whoever) that I want the points or if it will do so automatically. Does it default to your home resort or to the points? Thanks again.

I purchased my RCI points TS on ebay too.

The seller, one of the big postcard companies who probably sold you yours too,
usually charges an RCI transfer fee. Once the deed comes back to you then you call RCI and they'll set up the account for you. Are they charging you the RCI transfer fee?
Hopefully all will go smoothly. It usually does, surprisingly, since they do a lot of TS transfers.

You're gonna get alot of mileage out of 85K points.
Congratulations and welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you purchased a week timeshare that is already been converted to RCI points. You need to become a RCI point member after you receive the deed back to show proof of ownership. You then sign a 3-year renewable agreement with RCI to automatic deposit your week each year and your 86,500 points will show up in your RCI account.

Who is the seller? Got a name? If it is a person, is it actually them, or someone acting for them.

It sounds like it is likely a postcard company, and their affiliated closing companies are notorious for being bumblers, letting things fall through the cracks or sit it piles somewhere around the office.

Some postcard companies only have power of attorney, so the seller is the previous owner.

Even the well-informed have a hard time with them sometimes. You have to ride herd on them.

                  you've been had....

First lets talk about this "deed", all the deed is, is an aknowledgment that you are allowed to use the property you paid to much for. You really do not own anything at all. If you are still in a recission period, you should really look into that. There are much easier and CHEAPER ways to go where you want to go in the world, and not have to deal with t/s salesmen. And as a warning, everytime you do go to ANY property in RCI, since you are an owner they are going to get you to come down for an "Owner's Customer Service Survey" or some other ploy to get you in their sales room, and try to upgrade you, or even get you to buy more of something you don't need. The way they do this is, is by pulling what they call the "Need or Greed" card. This is where they will bash what the talked you into buyin in the first place so they can devolop a need. Or if you are happy with what you have, they will find a way to develop a "greed" to own more. I sold timeshare for 2 years, and I felt like a crook after every sale. I hope some of this helps you out, so that you can truly enjoy your vacations like you intended to do before the scam artist got to you.

BB33699, As a general rule, when the purchase is made on ebay, there is no recission period. And, it will be a lot cheaper on the resale market than what you were selling. Some timeshares go for $1.00.

But, hang around. I may need you, and more like you, folks willing to tell the truth. So many timeshare sales people are so full of themselves that they believe the things they say. They have to to be able to live with themselves.

Not saying all free ebay weeks are a bad deal, but given the forever ongoing expense, and the dysfuntional aspect of RCI, we have some free ones we which we did not.

I really appreciate all the folks taking time to respond. To clarify I bought on ebay and it didn't cost me all that much, and as far as I know there is no recission. We are happy with the decision we made so far, and really are mostly curious as to what is next since we have never bought a t/s before. It sounds like I will a lot more info once I get all the docs from the closing company. My biggest concern is just ensuring that we have the points as that was the sole purpose for our purchase. Thank you again to everyone for taking the time to try and clarify and help.

                          T-3.
Stick around and after you get more than 30 posts you can see the exchange opportunities so you can have an idea of what your 85K points will get.

I only own 25K points and I get alot of mileage out of it so with 85K you can go on vacation for several weeks. Especially if you use it exclusively for the 7500 exchanges you could theoretically get more than 10 weeks a year.

By "get all the docs from the closing company" does that mean they have not sent you the contract yet, or do you mean the closing docs?

Sorry for the delay I missed this one. I meant closing docs. I have since received a copy of the deed, and am now waiting to here from the resort. I am told that at that point we can move the points into our name. So far so good. Thank you all for taking the time.
