  • I think I have been ripped off by RCI. Any ideas.

I think I am being ripped off by RCI. They are offering a promotion on a hotel in the Dominican Republic. I received an email from them that said that the all inclusive rate would only be 20.00 per person per day. I called RCI and verified that it was bonified. They exchanged three of my weeks for 3 hotel units for up to 12 people at that rate. When I got the confirmation letter, it had the original daily rate of 80 dollars per person. I called RCI back and was told that the promotion was offered by the resort and they would honor the 20 dollar rate. I then called the resort and they told me that it this was not true. They said that the certificate had to stipulate the 20.00 dollars.
I called RCI back and told them this and was sent to a supervisor. The supervisor said that he documented my account but would not be able to give me a confirmation certificate with the right amount because GET THIS!!!!
They dont want other countries to find out about this deal because they only want people in the US to know about it. I have been a member of RCI for 20 years. Members are their lifeblood. Why would they want to rip us off? The supervisor told me that I would have no problem when I checked in because he documented my records. I dont believe that for a minute. I am not taking 8 people to a foreign country where my confirmation document states an amount 4 x what it should be and say "Please just look in my account, so and so says it is different" Please help me, I have spent over 3000.00 in non refundable plane tickets. What can I do ..... Any recommendations.

Ask RCI for the name of a person at the hotel that will confirm your rate. Then call the main number of the hotel and ask for that person. If they can't give you that or documentation of your lower rate I would be nervous, too.

      For future reference....
      Wyndham did something nesty..
I do not trust them or ...anymore.
I invested in a DVR $45 and now I record every phone conversation
with banks, doctors office, ( once I showed up for my appt and I was turned a way, because it was not booked by their new secretary,...)
Now my recording every IMPORTANT call, and did already save some trouble for me.
You can record even on SKYPE, (pamela VR).. you just have to tell.
If they can record convertsations for educational or quality purposes....
      so can I.

What type of DVR do you have? And how does it work on the phone?

Be careful. It is not legal to record an interstate telephone call without (a) getting consent of all parties to the conversation and (b) using a device that inserts a tone periodically into the call to remind everyone they are being recorded.

I agree that it seems they are trying to rip you off.

Do you have the original email?

It seems to me that you should try calling again and ask for a supervisor - state your case again and tell them the resort has already told you THEY WILL NOT HONOR the $20 per day pp UNLESS it is on your confirmation.
If RCI again states "it is documented on your account" the demand they send you a copy of that documentation.

Meanwhile, I would make copies of the email and the incorrect confirmation and send them along with a letter to the president of the company stating you will be going to the local media with your story if they do not provide the correct confirmation. If a week goes by, call/email your local "troubleshooter" - they love stories of the BIG corporation trying to screw the little guys.

Let us know how u make out.

OK, I feel much better now...
but I am still recording every - seems to be important phone calls.
                        I give warning - prerecorded.
And it saved me time and frustration already...

Does anyone else have any useful information to pass along to the OP?

Any specific contact person or a better route to take if they will not give him the written confirmation he needs?
