For those trying to figure out my math , RCI's impact on it's members , 41 would take 6 of one of our weeks. Albeit an off-season week, it is at an RCI Gold Crown and in an area that RCI and the timeshare industry has ballyhooed, misrepresented, and made hundreds of millions of dollars off of for more than 20 years. After getting rich off of it, you just pull the rug out from under it.

6 times $625 (annual fee) = $3750
5 Combine fees @ $99 = 495

$4245

Plus the exchange fee, whatever that is today.

So, the all-inclusive fee, which was the obscene thing in the old days, is more like just date rape now. Maybe something Rothlesberger would do.


For those lurking at RCI, what do you not understand about that, about what you have done to your most loyal, longtime Weeks members?

It's only one combination fee if you do it all at once. But yes, it would take about 4 of the weeks of the only resort I have left to get it. The very same week that once got me nice coastal summer weeks and aruba and england...

The on-line exchange fee is $179.

If someone can just sit there, knowing what they have done, and how loyal customers are suffering, and defend it or make excuses, cuz they get a paycheck, well, that speaks for itself.

It's nice to get a paycheck, but there some things that are just not right, and more than usual nowadays.

Like I've been saying, for us it's simple, just give us the two weeks we have been getting for the last 20 years, or buy our timeshares, and I will shut up. Better than that, I will go away and everyone will be happier.

I am an owner at this resort so I feel the need to come to its defense.

41 is high but it is a holiday week and as I mentioned in ops it can be had for 38500 points which for many is around $380-$500 in MF +$179 exchange fee = $559- $679.

As for the $820 AI fee which is paid to the resort for 2 people for 7 nights its one of the least expensive AI fees in RCI or II. Average-less than average AI's usually charge around $65pppd ($910) and upscale ones charge $100-150pppd ($1400-$2100) Sandals is above average in quality 3.5 stars out of 5 IMO.

$820 works out to $59 per person per day. Even if it were only 3 meals a day in average to slightly above average restaurants not including tip and alcohol it would be reasonable for the Caribbean. But it includes alcohol and even if you are not a (big)drinker a glass of wine with dinner and a fruity drink by the pool can add up (as can sodas and non alcoholic fruity drinks). Tips are included, airport transfers which would be a minimum of $40 per person round trip, daily snorkeling and catamaran rides with lessons.

You do need to tip the redcaps at the airport and the the driver but everyone else is taken care of. Spa treatments are extra as are day trips but if you bring $200-300 per person, you can get a massage by the ocean one day, zipline through the jungle or glide down the Martha Brae river on a bamboo raft and buy some souvinirs for less than $2500 total for 2 (not including air).

And unlike many AI's where you can find them for less through expedia, you won't find these rooms for less than $2000. Most people staying there book through the resort's website and pay $3000 for the same room (but they do get golf and scuba included).

The truly bizarre thing about this particular sighting is that MOST AI range from 5 to ~17TPU for prime dates and exclusive properties.

Sally this was not made as a post against Sandals. If I were to go to Jamaica this would be the place. I have heard wonderful things about it and $59/p/day is very reasonable. 41 is NOT reasonable. Points would be the way to book this one. Or rent directly from you!

I know Gatlinburg is popular and has many timeshares but 40 or 41 points for Christmas week seems a bit extreme to me. I won't go into the fact that it will cost about the same to trade into summer here as it does to Smuggs and Disney.....

That would suggest that Gatlinburg has some type of local Christmas-New Years event that is a big draw, and that we don't know about.

As an example, Veterans' Week is a big deal in Branson, so lodging is very hard to come by. I have noticed that stuff like Last Calls are not available for that week. However, not that I look at 2011, there are quite a few Extra Vacations.

Sorry to take it OT awhile back . . . I had not noticed that til now. I musta off my meds.

You know it seems that advance planning into 2012 is just not worth it anymore. I've noticed that a few weeks that I've checked get more TPU's for 2011 than 2012 but yet cost more to reserve in 2012 just like the second Gatlinburg example you referenced.

Not sure if this is on purpose so that people will exchange this year as opposed to long range planning. I've never been much of a long range planner anyway so I'm good but it seems as if they're building urgency into the system to get us to act so they can make the exchange fees earlier.

Glad I stayed there

I am an owner at this resort so I feel the need to come to its defense.

41 is high but it is a holiday week and as I mentioned in ops it can be had for 38500 points which for many is around $380-$500 in MF +$179 exchange fee = $559- $679.

As for the $820 AI fee which is paid to the resort for 2 people for 7 nights its one of the least expensive AI fees in RCI or II. Average-less than average AI's usually charge around $65pppd ($910) and upscale ones charge $100-150pppd ($1400-$2100) Sandals is above average in quality 3.5 stars out of 5 IMO.

$820 works out to $59 per person per day. Even if it were only 3 meals a day in average to slightly above average restaurants not including tip and alcohol it would be reasonable for the Caribbean. But it includes alcohol and even if you are not a (big)drinker a glass of wine with dinner and a fruity drink by the pool can add up (as can sodas and non alcoholic fruity drinks). Tips are included, airport transfers which would be a minimum of $40 per person round trip, daily snorkeling and catamaran rides with lessons.

You do need to tip the redcaps at the airport and the the driver but everyone else is taken care of. Spa treatments are extra as are day trips but if you bring $200-300 per person, you can get a massage by the ocean one day, zipline through the jungle or glide down the Martha Brae river on a bamboo raft and buy some souvinirs for less than $2500 total for 2 (not including air).

And unlike many AI's where you can find them for less through expedia, you won't find these rooms for less than $2000. Most people staying there book through the resort's website and pay $3000 for the same room (but they do get golf and scuba included).

I have to agree about the AI fee and it has not gone up very much over the last 4 or 5 years. I think I paid around $780 for the AI fee when we were there and it was Beaches Grande villas. I think I traded a Pelican week 50 studio when we went which would probably have a tpu of about 15 if you could even trade it today. Also the transfer fee alone from the airport was about $90 per couple so the daily AI was a super deal for all of the great food and activities at 3 different Sandals resorts in Ocho Rios. The beach however was not that great and I would prefer Negril beaches for our next trip to Sandals.
