So where do I find the "I hate the new RCI trading power" forum?

I would like to hear other people's stories of no longer being able to exchange for anything even remotely close to past exchanges.

I can't imagine how this has benefited anyone.

I'm your guy. That's exactly what I've been saying since it rolled out.

I've posted it somewhere, how many of our past exchanges we now cannot get with one deposit.

Do an advanced search for JLB or Carolinian and you will have plenty to read.

I am sorry to hear that you didn't benefit from the changes. Some people, perhaps even most people, didn't benefit.

The fact is, also, that there are some who did indeed benefit from the changes. You won't read much about this except for a few posts at the very beginning when the new system rolled out. Coming out ahead was characterized early as bragging. While I was initially upset by this unfair characterization - I do not believe the sharing of data that is not what someone else wants to hear is bragging - I now see and appreciate the benefit of the rapid shut down of positive experience sharing that resulted.

One thing I think we all can agree on is that things will change again.

And most likely each change will get us less and RCI more.

I have benefited because I own a converted beachfront 1 star motel that could never see anything good but if I combine I can get something really, really nice with it which in the past was out of reach. So yes some of us have benefited from the "enhancements".

Yes things will change so if you're gonna stay in the game you've gotta change too. That's life in all areas not just TS's.

In a way I'm glad that people are hating RCI cause RCI points is pretty much freely open everywhere to us non-haters. Hopefully not too many will discover the value that it can be for now. (of course subject to change).

Another certainty, based on the last 15 years of Internet forums . . .
Some people will criticize RCI, and some people will criticize the people criticizing RCI.

I guess that covers all the bases.

I would think those criticizing people would have learned that it will not shut up those reporting facts, say, like, Carolinian, for instance. He has been consistent in his reporting for more than a decade.

Funny, though, how the personal criticism and sniping occurs on forums allegedly not allowing it.

Back to the OP, no, RCI is not a scam.

It is a legally operating company and attempts to make it less scammy have led to the present situation. it's the Be Careful What You Wish For syndrome.

It is however, in a period where it is under the scrutiny of the courts, to see if it complies with some court-ordered changes, and others, so there are people watching it, and us, the things being reported on the Internet.

Feel free to express both facts and feelings and try to not to let the detractors discourage you. There will always be detractors on Internet forums. There are even people who speak well of Wastegate, for instance.

You somehow left off the base that covers people critizing people that don't criticize RCI. Now that is funny.

I would agree that RCI itself is not a scam per se, but it has some business practices which are such as its rental of exchange deposits to the general public, and, it would appear, its secret system of setting points lite values, given the number of places systematically underpointed or overpointed, that are rather scammy .

For stuff like that, they could easily just claim incompetence, IT problems, or something else from their bag of prepared excuses. They have always been well-represented legally.

Still think RCI is a scam when I look at it. I deposit my week, which is at the Haceinda Del Mar in Mexico, sometime in July, Jan 2010. I still have not been able to get anything nice for New England or Eastern Canada. I go over to the extra weeks and sure enough there is 1,000 plus that I can buy once again for a huge price for one week. So that still leaves me with my week to use. Why in the world would I pay again for another week that is already paid for. I just want to trade my week. Isn't that what timesharing is all about?? I dont' get why there is an inventory for me, which is crap, and another inventory that I can purchase from??? Just doesn't make sense to me. If you have it available why can't I use it? I think it seems pretty simple. Now you got this trading power, which to me is another scam. So they would rather see that week go unused instead of putting it in my inventory? Does it make sense to anyone out there????

It obviously makes sense (and cents!) to RCI.

I wish ALL inventory RCI gets - whether from owner deposits or developers or the man on the moon - were available for exchange too. We'd all like that very much. But the fact is that it's not. And that is one reason why forums such as this one are so valuable. The wealth of info here is large and by reading you can learn the ways to work the system, as it exists, to get what you want (mostly). It's definitely a learning process.
