Whatever happened to that threat/idea?

It would make more sense to give an 18 plus a few bucks to get a 20, and have it over with, than to involve two deposits, two maintenance fees, a combine fee, and wind up with clutter (Deposit Credits) in your account.

Some folks don't have another deposit to give.

There were some rumblings in the run up to the introduction of Points Lite that this might happen, although not necessarily in the initial phase. We will just have to see, but it would not surprise me at all. It is similar to what a number of airlines do with ''cash and miles'' or what nearly all of them do in selling extra miles. If I were to speculate, my hunch would be RCI selling extra points lite for a fee.

In other words, if there were to be a revolt, demanding the dictator abdicate and democracy be put in place, the dictator might offer Deposit Plus Bucks?
