    There are pros and cons
Don't be silly. Everything RCI does must be a "con" and can never be a "pro".

The more time they have to rent a unit, the higher they can ask. The less time they have, the lower as they have less time to fill the properties to meet quotas.

Checked any really nice last minute (under 30 days to check-in) weeks lately? I didn't think so.

          First . . . Timeshare Guru??? Hmmmmm!!!!

Second, I was gonna ask you about that, and the cupboard has been bare in that regard, as far as I have noticed. That Just adds to my suspicions, the unanswered questions brought up by my 14 years of daily searching.

After all these years, the questions still remain:

Are they renting stuff that has been deposited where I search, or

have owners there totally abandoned RCI?

All I know is that there are 50-some resorts, times all their units, times 50 weeks per unit, and little to none of that is ever appearing.

So much for the 45 day window! Those off season owners who bought to use the 45 day window, in the mistaken belief that one could believe RCI's promises, are getting screwed to the wall. RCI will lose their membership fees and exchange fees, which they deserve to, but these folks will also be bailing on resorts, and HOA's do not deserve that load of crap that RCI is dumping on them from their new policies. Shame on Cendent / Wyndham!

Actually, I put up a thread on the pros and cons of Points Lite, mentioning some of both, but I do not recall your participation in that thread!

This is the breakdown in the next 30 days
                1 - 10 [5017] 98%
                11 - 14 [81]
                15 - 18 [11]
                19 - 23 [2]

And this is the 45 day window:
                1 - 10 [7249] 89%
                11 - 14 [420]
                15 - 18 [279]
                19 - 23 [109]
                24 - 32 [46]

                Compared to the entire inventory:
                1 - 10 [76222] 47%
                11 - 14 [33312]
                15 - 18 [26922]
                19 - 23 [16464]
                24 - 32 [7375]
                33 + [743]

So the vast majority of inventory is available within the short time frame at very low cost. We don't really know if everything was always available in the 45 day window before - certainly not Hawaii. Also, the next 45 days includes the Easter holiday so some of that inventory may still be inflated.

Are the numbers you are quoting worldwide? If so how many of those "bargains" are AI? How many are in the canary islands?

Hawaii was always notorious for EXCELLENT 45 day exchanges. It had gotten to the point that those in the know bought their airline tickets and booked right before departure. That definately changed for the worse.

History suggests that it would not be a discussion characterized by give and take, so much as beating ones head against a wall. I'd rather not.

Some of those 45 day window off season owners have weeks with numbers under 10, so your breakdown does not tell a lot.

The real key is how many of the lower ones are desirable weeks and with this time of year, how many are mud season in ski areas. Raw numbers do not tell the story.

Then there are the things that have previously degraded the 45 day window - diversion of inventory to rentals to the general public and diversions to RCI Points members. Now they have put many Points Lite members in competition for this inventory as well, since it is no longer just 1 for 1 trades, and they have priced some of the better inventory out of reach.

I am a plan ahead person, and never used the 45 day window, but as an HOA board member I am aware that many of the off season owners who traded did. RCI has kicked the HOA's in the teeth with its new policies. The HOA's need to kick back by heavily promoting other exchange companies.

                              Why do you say that?

I'm with L on this one.

In the many years I included HA in my daily searches, it was always strong in at least the 14-day window, something confirmed several times to me by RCI people, including an assistant to Kenneth may, back in the day. HA has always had a lot of last minutye cancellations because it is a fairly difficult trip.

We got two great "upgrades" in '99 to LBR and "The Point" in the 14-Day Window.

Right - the last minute inventory for Hawaii tended to be within 30 days - more like 14, not 45 days. At least that was what I was seeing back in 2008 when we went to Hawaii - that was when I was looking.
