  • When It All Goes To Hell In A Handbasket . . .

That is a phrase I have used since it started to, since Ms. DeHaan cashed out her chips, and something I've said more frequently since I began documenting the decline in 2004.

The other half of what I have said is . . . we will just walk away from it with fond memories of more than 100 wonderful vacations.

Isn't it appropriate, therefor, that at just the time it has totally gone to hell in a handbasket for us, a way to do the same thing, only better, longer, and at less expense, and, maybe, with a real chance for financial appreciation, comes along? Now we will spend four months, or more, a year, doing what we have been doing only two weeks a year.

I guess there always is another chapter, or a sequel.

Now, how does one get rid of unwanted timeshares? Funny that that's where I'm at, since I have helped others do that over the years.

I am thinking the same thing, I have a couple extra that I need to get rid of since we moved to TN. I have just been putting it off since the economy and market is soooo bad.

I have finally given away and even paid for the deed transfer and recording fees of the last of the no longer wanted, or needed timeshares. Spending $115.50 to "make it go away" was the best value for me.

Believe me, there are always those who will take something for free.

I can attest to that, as I was one of those takers of a free timeshare.

Talking about going to hell in a handbasket, here is one of the first discussions of that nature here, four years ago, where someone said that I had already been saying that for three or four years, and she used the hell in a handbasket terminology, now an official RCI phrase.

          http://www.timeshareforums.com/forum...trouble-2.html

The other prognostications concerning the better resorts in SW FL in that thread also came true. The desirable settlefors in SW FL have all but disappeared, the better resorts have all but disappeared (year-round), and, for all practical purposes, the only beachfront resorts in Snowbird season are the less desirable one in NE FL and the Panhandle. Never again will anyone be able to choose from 18 or 14 or anything other than an occasional very lesser one in SW FL.

Another appropriate quote from that thread:

"I guess it only matters when it matters, when it gets personal."

I'm looking for another timeshare, but the ones I want are virtually never free. I'm not interested in RCI affiliates and am looking for something that will be pretty easy to resell. I'm currently down to one from a high of nine and wouldn't mind dumping the one I have if I can find something I really want.

Good for you, and congratulations! I think you'll be very happy with this step.

And who knows you might like it so much you decide to call Florida your full time home. Then you can get into those HGVC's in the summer like a real Floridian.

Does this mean that you actually bought a house in FL?
                  If so, congrats!

As for your Timeshares -- post them for free here if you just want out.
Have someone post them on the "other" site's freebie board, there is a lot of action there.

I have already offered, and am doing so again now.

& I'm serious. We don't have to be there.

It is better to have someone there every now and then.
