No one in their right mind could take a comprehensive look at what is being charged for exchanges in Weeks/Points and conclude it is not screwed up.

It's good that you, too, are a student of history, and don't mind taking a walk in the past, because you can, therefore, attest that there was no greater advocate and defender of RCI on Internet forums for years than me.

I have kudos from RCI saying exactly that, and because of the hours and hours I worked with them, providing documentation to try to resolve some issues. This is circa 2000-2004, but if you want to place a specific date on it, it was during the time of a major RCI.com enhancement, during which it virtually collapsed. The IAB was appointed, and because the techies were so busy trying to revive the website, they did not have time to work with the people I was working with to resolve another issue, a trading power collapse issue.

Others here went through that and know what I'm talking about.

So, something, somewhere happened to change my opinion. Something changed me from defending RCI on Internet forums to how I feel today.

That something specifically was the thousands of daily searches I did over many years, before doing that sort of thing was cool, such that in 2004 I began to see the decline, and have probably the only documentation of it anyone has done. A specific study of daily searches of one area for the same month each year, over a period of years.

I don't have to rely on the whims of others. I was there every day watching it whittle away. Now, for all practical purpose, what used to be is gone.

We have all been weaned away from what used to be. Now, when I can get once what we all used to get regularly, yes, it is a victory.

If you will just give me the courtesy of my years, I will likely be out of your hair soon enough.

Speaking of history, and OY, bashing is another thing that seems to stay in style.

When I first started, Carolinian was the head RCI Basher, and there were those who obsessed on his bashing, so bashed him. He hasn't changed much, except that he has been provided a lot more reason.

Others haven't changed much either. As I have become an avid RCI Basher, there are those who choose to bash me.

Whether it's me bashing RCI or folks bashing Steve or me for bashing RCI, it is the same conduct, bashing.

Most RCI quirks are exactly that, quirks.

Once how you learn how RCI actually works and the points actually work, then the rest becomes easy.

Do they make money here and there?? Last time I checked they were a for profit company so yes, they will charge what they believe the market will bear. If you were a stakeholder wouldn't you want them to do that?

This does not mean you can't beat them at some of their own games. You can. However, I save those metrics from folks who have bought from me in the past.

You could look at this and say, "Hey look, he's pitched RCI, owns RCI points, of course he loves them."

Or you could look at the postcards on my wall that have turned into referrals which have turned into more postcards and say "of course he loves RCI."

After years and years of RCI, many "enhancements" and many searches I have learned the following:

Things ain't what they used to be.

Things will never be what they used to be.

If you REALLY only want to bacation in cettain area, then buy there.

I was NEVER able to get an exchange to Ireland after years and years of in going searches, so one year I bought a week. I now can got every year, the first full week of August.

I was never able to get a summer beach week that was suitable for our needs, so I bought there. I can no go every year the first full week of July.

I have given away all the weeks that we owned that no longer work for us to get us the exchanges we once got. I even paid all settlement costs. Cheap money to be rid of excess baggage.

If I find that what we own no longer gets us where we want to go, when we want to go there, I will give those away too and get what we want.

And exchange company is just that (except for Rent Condos Instead) and exchange company. In my opinion )such as it is) many, many people have done as I, they got rid of what does not work and replaced it with what does.

You will rarely find me deposit my 3 bedroom Ireland August week unless I can't go, or don't have a renter (I know that is a dirty word). It is the same with my July beach week. I can rent both for more than fees and why wouldn't I? Depending on an exchange to get where I want to go has become too risky.

Believe me, if I wanted to go to Sarasota, Florida, or any of the southern west coast Florida beach locations during January, February or March I'd buy there. I certainly wouldn't depend on RCI to get me there.

This is just my opinion, and I know there are those who will not agree, that is their opinion, but what once was is no longer and lamenting about what we were able to do in the past is just that lamenting and probably won't change a thing.

Since the hysterical revelations of 11/16/10, only recently have those who pay really, really close attention began to see some signs of sensibility.

Our (Steve, me, others similar) bashing serves a purpose. I've spent years trying to figure out what purpose bashing the bashers serves, whether it's OY or here, but there must be a purpose, cuz it seems to be a necessity.

It is common to all internet forums that I've seen.

Like they don't have ENOUGH to talk about already How about I come visit one or two weeks in February? Even though Greg doesn't really like to travel anymore he never stops me from going. Beside, other then the no travel, I still kinda like him
