  • RCI Vacation Insurance

I got an exchange for a 1 bedroom and purchased vacation insurance. I now see a 2 bedroom (with fewer TPU's) and wonder how much luck anyone has had cancelling, getting exchange fee credit and return of TPUs.

    Anyone successfully done this?

    Thanks,
    Nancy

Did you also get trading power insurance?

    ($79)

In the day I could normally find a Guide to do a switch. I can tell within a few seconds whether one will or not.

The likelihood of success may very well be determined by your history with RCI. If they have made concessions for your account in thee past, it is likely they will not again.

They should for another exchange fee.

But, you have to be careful with Guides doing this sort of thing. I had one cancel an exchange before I told her to, and then could not get it back with the deposit that got it to begin with. I had said, "Please listen to everything I have to say before you do anything," but it was too late.

Customer Service (feedback) got it back, with the comment, "She could have done that."

I had an exchange confirmed using a week in my account with insurance on it.

I canceled, the week went back into my account but this time with TPUs.....I took 28 of the 48 TPUs they gave me and confirmed the same week online.

I did this twice, so yes, you can do this....the trick is to do it and immediately confirm the new trade online so it does not "go away"

edit, I got whatever it was that they said I would get back in $$$ - is it $109???? I really do not remember but I got all the TPUs and the money and then I paid another exchange fee.

Thanks all. Unfortunately the 2 bedroom is now gone, but I will keep looking.

If you find it, they should let you cancel and rebook. You will get the difference back in a tpu credit but you will need to re-purchase the insurance if you want it. You won't need to pay another exchange fee - that's now covered by the insurance (you get it back in the form of a coupon/credit to be used within X months - not an issue if rebooking immediately.

Thanks all for the help. It took 3 calls to RCI (because I got cut off, etc.), but I finally got this accomplished and gained 9 TPU's. I wonder if people are going to start watching exchanges and switching when it gets closer if available for less TPU's? This did cost me the $69 vacation insurance I had, but a larger unit is worth that since DS is going to be with us.

Now I have 3 different small bunches of TPU's in my account that I will have to combine at some time.

Right - and that's why RCI is happy to do it. But worth it to you in this case for the extra space. And if you wait for a last minute trip to somewhere not too exotic, you might get it for 9 tpus or less. Then RCI gets an extra exchange fee

Exactly. My brother is going with me to Orlando (how exotic is this) April 30-May7. We have a 2 bedroom at Westgate for 7 TPU. If I include the exchange fee the exchnae cost me $250. I have a week at Bonnet Creek (2 bedroom) for 12 TPU. I am not a fan of Orlando, but my son lives near and having the ts is better than staying with him

Only if you tell them about it - we have to remember that the informed consumers found here and on a few other TS Boards are a minuscule amount of total owners/exchangers.

From what I hear, you are going to love Bonnet Creek - a wonderful resort to stay at and hang around - really nice grounds/pools, etc.....and if u r not TOO anti-Disney check with chriskre and find out which building will give you nightly views of the fireworks at EPCOT.
