There were some interesting options in NYC not available in regular weeks a while back -tpus were far lower than the ridiculous 58-60 it now takes to book The Manhattan Club.

Foolish of RCI not to allow a free trial period, or at least a search without joining. Then if you wanted to book based on availability, it'd be time to join.

i sprang for the Platinum just so I could grab one of the NYC weeks at the Affinia. 29 points for a 1BR for a week in Manhattan. I think it was a great deal. Now where I might have been an idiot is that I went ahead and bought the Platinum membership for the five year plan. Not sure we'll find something to use every year (but if they offer NYC yearly i'd be tempted to use it just for that). It roughly comes out to getting seven nights for about the price of three to four nights at a normal hotel rate.

I'm back to being a satisfied RCI customer.

I would be tempted to try it for a year if they did as Glitter said a trial period or such....

I have not done it, does not seem it will be beneficial enough to pay even more money..

I too have purchased the Platinum upgrade for a year and am waiting to see the "benefits".
Priority access? We'll see if I get the ongoing search I have going right now.
Overall though, I have had much success with RCI even before they switched over to the more transparent "trading power" system.

They don't have a trial period but they do pro rate the $55 for your membership year. In my case my membership expires March 1, 2012. So if I want to upgrade it would cost me $35 for the rest of my year expiring March 1.

So if your membership expires in 3 months you could try it out for about $15 before committing to an entire year.

I am still thinking about it and will probably try it since I am 1 TPU away from a 2BR exchange I want to make and will need to combine with another week to get what I want and then will have some leftover TPU's. What really erks me is I have always gotten this trade it the past 10 years where I traded a 1BR week and got this same 2BR week every year which is now going to cost me another $99 to do, but if I join Platinum I will save $25 through a rebate.

Anyone else feel like they are being ripped off here???????

I really like to know if it works for you. It sounds like it may not do much for searching as far as availability, and if it does not change the TPU needed (even by a point), then it seems useless.

                  Please keep us updated.

                  Cheers!
