  • New to RCI

Hello. This is my first post and hopefully I am in the right place. I recently purchased the Unlimited Vacation Club from AM Resorts (dumb, I know) and am trying to sort it all out. Currently I have filed a claim with their QA dept, but in the mean time I am trying to wrap my head around the whole trade thing with RCI.

Per my contract I only have a trading power of 9, but UVC will match my week with another week worth 9 and I will have to pay $99 to RCI to combine them. I could also deposit additional weeks to get up to the trading power I need, with UVC matching each week. So I could deposit two of my weeks, get UVC to match two and thus have 4 weeks, which I could combine for $99 for a trading power of 36. Here is where I get confused. Would I then have 4 weeks deposited with a combined trading power of 36, or 4 weeks deposited each with a trading power of 36?

I don't have access to RCI yet, so I cannot view most of their resources.

Thanks in advance for your help.

One deposit with a total value of 36.

Thank you very much. That is what I thought it must be. The UVC representative I spoke with on the phone said it was the opposite, but I thought that really sounded too good to be true.

Can you cancel? A trading power of 9 is pretty much at the bottom. How much maintenane fee this combined trading power (4 weeks, 36 power) will cost you?

It was too late to cancel once I learned my mistake, but I have been able to re-negotiate my contract (still waiting to get it in writing as I just spoke to their representative). My new plan will have a trading power of 15. The yearly fee is only $120, but I have to pay $250 for each week I use, then I also have to pay the RCI fee.

            Hmmmmmm,
            so $120 +
            $250 for 15+15
            and
            $250 for a second 15+15
            =
            $620 for 60 TPUs/trade value.

That is not too bad as you could get at least 2 and probably 3 exchanges (+179 each exchange fee)

            $620+179x3 = $1157 = under $400 per week.

In your "re-negotiation, do NOT pay any more for your membership - what DID u pay for this membership and how many years it it for?

10 years, 20 floating weeks. It also comes with the UVC perks when staying at their resorts.

So when they say they will "give" you a second week for each deposit, is that part of your 20 week total?

No, it doesn't come our of the 20.

Well based on the math above - you could make this work for you - the BEST thing to do is to start planning your vacations (I forgot the $99 combination RCI fee) - become familiar with RCI - stick around here and ask questions..... make lemonade out of those lemons!

If the fees are indeed what you described here, it's not bad at all. Please make sure these are put in writing because the yearly fees seem extremely low.
