  • RCI Experience- Aaaarrrgggh !

    Hmmmmm, simmer, simmer, simmer..................

So........ I' m trying to get The Crane for late fall 2006 or the coming winter and inquired as to whether or not my summer 2007 week in the Mariner House, Nantucket could pull a non-summer Crane.

I was cut off twice by the "Take The RCI Survey" recording while speaking to the agent, aka, guide. Aaaarrggghhhh.

Oh, BTW, I had to laugh when I heard the announcement that we could deposit our weeks "for free". Oh, boy, thank yoouuuu !

Forget it. I'll just go to Nantucket next year or direct exchange with someone from Forums Nation.
I only deal with RCI when I have to. Mariner House is only RCI.
Maybe I'll talk to Mark at SFX.

Edited to add: ust adding this experience to a long line of exercises in futility with them.

"Forums Nation" and "The Forums Faithful"... stolen right out of the play book.

BTW, I'll be at the Cathedral of the Holy Fenway on Sunday when we take on those heathen (Such persons considered as a group; the unconverted. ) Texans.

Avery, yes, exactly what I was trying for, but kept getting disconnected.
Thank you for letting me know anyway.

That is also one on my wish list. Danielle saw my exact check-in date with Points but no match on weeks side.

I'm also using a summer cape cod 2006 and have had an on-going search for nearly 14 and a half months....

I have not re-upped my RCI membership after March 2008, have looked into alternatives for my other 2 weeks and will rent my 2007 Cape Cod if I don't get a match for one of the 25 resorts I'm looking for by 6 months out.

That comment that "you can make a deposit free today" has me concerned. I think RCI may be testing to see if there is anyone concerned about there being a deposit fee or the amount of resistance it could expect if they did institute a fee for a deposit.

Actually, it's a logical next step. They are undoubtedly refunding more exchange fees since exchange inventory is so much less than it used to be, so why not clip us on the front end for nothing?

Fee to deposit? Bye bye weeks

If the goal is to kill off weeks - often thought to be the case - a deposit fee will go a long way toward achieving that dubious goal. As it is the exchange/membership fees add close to 1/3 to the cost of owning a week over the never ending annual costs. It is becoming a losing game to own a week only to trade as the costs are becoming (or may already be) prohibitive on the chance that you'll get a decent trade. The availability of low cost rentals only add to the problem. I have always felt that you should own to use which can include the use of a system such as FF rather than owning to trade. That is the case now more than ever before.

That's how I felt the first time I heard it on the phone. They are either trying to get you to give them your week now or trying to set us up for a new fee. If they do that as timeos pointed out that will hurt weeks even more. I know if they pull this crap I will dump at least 5 of my weeks if not more. I will try keeping only what I can use or use with other exchange companies.

You probably won't believe this, but I just found out that their "deposit free today" offer has been extended to today!!!
