If you could keep this thread updated as the conversation continues i'm sure alot of members would be interested in the details...instead of the broad strokes
Thing is IF they said its ok...we need to understand the circumstances and situations in which it IS ok and the circumstances and situations where it isn't...We need to know where that line is so we don't accidentally step over it

I'm still going back and forth, them acting like it never was forbidden and me showing them in writing where it was.

haha, sounds like the thread i had closed...if they are allowing it why are you fighting it? Isn't it a GOOD things for us AND RCI if its allowed? Less canceled exchanges and more guest fees + Exchange fees collected
Has anyone else contacted RCI with this question and gotten a response...So far, i got a 'No' and JLB has gotten a 'Yes'...so its a 50/50 percent chance that its Good to go....
Just trying to determine if there have been any other responses from RCI concerning this issue
Seems like it...Now that i got an official 'No' there is no way i will even be considering it till i, myself, get an official 'Yes' with an explaination on how the 'no' became a 'yes'

I'm still going back and forth with them, to make sure they really mean what they said.
This question is not just about being compensated for an exchange. The bigger question is who has control, the right to determine who gets what.
Until yesterday's answer, the answer to that has always been RCI. They have always had the exclusive right to determine what happens to a vacation interval from the time it is Spacebank until it is actually used.
From their previous statements, even after a member has received a confirmed exchange, RCI has still maintained control over it. If the member decided not to use it, RCI determined how it could be transfered to another person. We all know that confirmed does not always mean confirmed, that RCI still can do whatever they want with an exchange, even after it is paid for and confirmed.
If the member could not use it at all:
"If you can't use a confimed exchange, cancel it and make the unit available to other RCI members who may be requesting it. When members rent or swap confirmed exchanges, they undermine RCI's program to the detriment of other members. If a member is waiting for a vacation, he would indeed be upset to think that prime exchange units were being offered to the general public or traded among friends instead of being released."
Their previous position could not be any clearer than that. The member has never had the right to determine who it goes to . . . RCI has always held that it is still theirs to determine what to do with, and that it is to go to the next person on their waiting list.
I'm making sure that in saying two members can trade exchanges, that RCI actually means that, that they are giving up that exclusive control. That's would be a big step for them, and I'm wanting to make sure the person answering understands that, and what they are saying.

Any chance of posting the chat logs/email quotes...with personal information redacted....so we can watch this as it unfolds?

The semantics game I have been engaged in seems to have been diverted to confusion and avoidance.
Still waiting for a straight answer.

No, it is an answer from some Customer Communications Specialist. Just like you may get another different answer from another specialist. It will no help anyone in any position. It could be just an misunderstanding or untrained Specialist. Read his post #24. He wants someone really inside enough to say if their view changed.

See i'm not sure that the view has changed...all his quotes are from Madge, who as far as we know was a secretary or even a janitor for RCI i don't remember an official post outlining her job title...At most she was a customer communications specialist ...like those answering his questions now...taking her posts as any more fact worthy then the emails we are getting...IMO is not very well thought out thing to do

That's not the case at all. There were a couple of TUGgers who actually visited Madge in her office in Indianapolis one time.
Also all of Madge's posts that had any significant content were vetted by RCI corporate execs before they were posted. That was often a frustration, because it took forever to get answers to certain questions as RCI wasn't always in any particular hurry to answer them.

We can only speculate as to the real reasons why RCI stopped participating. IMHO, a major reason (if not the primary reason) was the potential liabilities associated with providing "formal" responses to questions at a location such as TUG. It's the sort of thing that lawyers hate; from their perspective it can only make trouble. From a lawyers standpoint, if it's something that's worthy of being documented, it should be included in RCIs terms and conditions and offocial policies, not posted at a third party web site.
For similar reasons, I suspect it may take a long time, if ever, to get an answer to your question from someone who really is in a position to make a definitive answer. Whatever answer is provided is going to be vetted, and it raises the issue of whether an informal response to an e-mailed question is the appropriate means to answer the question.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least if an answer never was provided, until a simultaneous language updates were made to the exchange terms and conditions.

And thus something that was arguably gray becomes a decided negative as a result of postings about the issue here or OY. Won't be the first time it's happened.
There are some of us who have gleaned certain bits of information that we share on an extremely limited basis because if the information becomes more widely known the advantage will surely be eliminated.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
