  • Weeks and TPU question

I always opt to save my 1 week 2 BR at 2 x 1 week 1 BR deposits, just I get 17 TPU each rather than a 2 BR at 20. I can always combine them into a week at 34 TPU.

My question, sometime I trade and end up with 1 to 2 TPU left. If I amass enough TPU, can these be used without a week? I mean say I use all my weeks and purely only have TPU left. Can you combine enough TPU and book using pure TPU without a base week?

Some resorts I like trade at 5 TPU in non summer season, so a 17 gives me too much left over, if it was to flush away as I have TPU and no weeks.

    Thanks!

I think I ubnderstand what you are asking and will try my best to explain in a clear manner.

I have a resort that gives 43 TPU for the deposit. I book a vacation that costs me 34 TPU and I get "change" of 9 TPU. I also have a week from a not so hot resort that gives me 14 TPU. I can pay a fee to have the 9 TPU "change" added to the no so hot 14 TPU and have a deposit worth 23 TPU. I make an exchange to a resort that costs me 12 TPU; again, I have "change". That change can be added to another deposit, and so on, and so on.

You in effect have no underlying week, just TPU. The change and adding to another deposit, even if those TPU are again change can go on indefinately.

Of course you pay a $99 fee each time you add the change to another change or deposit.

      Hope this has made sense!

        Thanks!

So basically you have to have a base week available, as you can't book a place on just pure left over TPU units (regardless if they are combined or not) having no weeks in your account?

As I understand it, no, you do not have to have a base week available (if you mean having a full banked week). You can add the leftoveer TPU together, even if they are left over from 10 exchanges using the "base" week.

In my first example let expand. I get 43 TPU from a deposit and 19 from another deposit. I exchange for a 34 TUP with 9 left over and I exchange for a 12 TPU using the second underlying week and have 7 left over. I can pay $99 and combine the leftovers of 9 and 7 and have 16 TPU with no underlying week. I can then use those 16 to make another trade.

no you don't have to have a week in your account at all...with the old RCI system you would trade week for week and any difference in value would be lost in the trade....

The new system is completely different, your 34 tpu's can be used for six 5tpu weeks if you want...your 17 can be used for a 5tpu week and two 6tpu weeks...or any combination...once a week is changed into TPU's it doesn't matter how many weeks you started out with...all that matters is how many weeks you can get for those TPU's

              Excellent - thanks!

I had hoped it worked that way.

I had an extra 5 sitting in my account, and during RCI's recent sale, The Grandview at Las Vegas was reduced to that exact number. I booked it right away.

                    Don't make this mistake!

I made a mistake the other direction. I had 4 different leftovers. 1+1+7+7. And I want a unit that will probably cost 25 TPUs. So that I would not have to pay more than one combination fee, I waited until I got my new weeks deposited. So I added 17+17+28 to the other 16 TPUs that I had leftover.

I set up an ongoing search for the 25 TPU exchange using my now 78 TPUs on deposit. Because I combined so many points, I cannot set up a second on-going search.

Because I have the points tied up with the ongoing search, I am not sure that I can even do an instant exchange without messing up my on-going search.

If I had been smart, I would have combined 1+7+17 for 25 TPUs. Then done that a second time for a second 25 TPU unit. Then I would still have my 28 TPUs available.

                    Hope this helps!

Gosh, I can't believe I am going to post this, like I am resigned to what is being what is , but . . .

I have a 2 credit that expires in March, 2012, and it can see 1 exchange, and I have an 8 credit that expires in March, 2013, and it can see 71,029 exchanges.

                      What was the question again?

                        That's evil

I had noticed if you combine left over TPUs it messes with the date they expire.

So many tricks Glad it's shared here so we dont get shafted
