  • When rental trumps exchange

    Having been around awhile now, I realize this is not abnormal but curious if this is what everyone else sees?

    Doing a search for exchanges available in Canada through my SVC portal for the month of July I got zilch. However, when running this search I get results;

    So, my question is why would RCI not make these available for exchange as well in order to at least get the possible exchange fee? If they do not rent, they get nothing, but by excluding them from the exchange inventory are they not shooting themselves in the foot?

    I presume as well, there is a threshold at which point these will become "last call rentals" (which currently there were none for this period) so can anybody say when this happens? Perhaps this information is available in another thread, but I have yet to find it.

    I think exchange fee collected is $189, add in potential combine point fee, some insurance, Guest certification, they probabably will get to $200

    Assume these unit cost them 1/3 of the renting value, it will left about $600 per rental.

    If the occupancy rate is less than 50%, than it maybe push. If it goes to 80%, it maybe better just stay in rental.

    Used to be, when TPU is not there, you can try to exchange anything RCI is on rental that has rental value less than $500. But you have to call RCI VG and specifically tell him/her about it. Not sure if it still work.

      SFX does it right. They offer their excess weeks ( "Sell of list" ) for either purchase ( rent ) or you can do an exchange for them. It is up to you to decide what best suits you.

      It seems like RCI is more interested in being a rental company than exchange company.

          I could find a very old thread, probably Over Yonder, of when I first observed RCI dumping unrented inventory into the 14 Day Window. 4 or 5 years ago

          So . . . . . . it is their game to play however they want.

          No . . . a lot of it doesn't make sense.

          We already know that.

            IMHO their agenda to goose short term profits any way they can, regardless of the long term impact on the health of their business, which depends on the health of the timeshare industry. Too many of their policies are extremely harmful in the medium to long term to the health of the timeshare industry. Before Cendant / Wyndham took over RCI, Crsytal deHahn, RCI's founder, based its policies on the long term, realizing that RCI's own future was based on the health of the overall industry.
